The Bilsteins will be an improvement. Actually, a solid steel rod would be an improvement over the AVOs. Save your coin and buy some single or dual adjustable QA1's and you will be amazed how improved your ride becomes. Getting the correct spring rate is also very critical. Some like 350# while others swear by 400#. All depends on how responsive you want the suspension to be.
With the rear shocks out, you should also upgrade to the seriously improved upper shock tower brackets sold at Cobra Valley. If you have never serviced the factory brackets or the bolts, you are dancing with the devil.

I upgraded my SPF from the bilstein shocks to the single adjustable shocks from cobra valley. I ordered the 350 lb springs but found them too soft. Replaced with 450 lb springs. Just right.
The stock bilsteins are OK. But a bit on the soft side with stock springs. If you are set on the bilsteins, then get heavier springs to smooth out the ride.

I upgraded my mount, shocks and springs from Cobra Valley, the best upgrade yet. My mounts lined up perfect. Access for one of the bolts on the drivers side required cutting a bit of the fiberglass but no big deal. I agree with ACdamic that the mount absolutely should be upgraded. You can gusset and reinforce the original but easier is to just buy the uprated mount. Rick

I went for a set of Wilbers.
These are available specific for the SPF. Expensive, but very good. One of the first things experienced Cobra-drivers notice when they drive with me as a passenger are the shocks. They all like them a lot.
Worth checking out.

+1 for the Cobra Valley/QA1s. And a big +1 on the upper shock mount upgrade.
Best upgrade I did...the AVOs are junk, and DANGEROUS. All 4 of mine had split bushings, two of them were so bad it was metal-to-metal contact on the LCA.
Upgrade now, and never worry about it again.

Are the stock Bilsteins non adjustable?
The Bilsteins I have each time you change springs the shop will adjust the valving to suit.

Olthoff Racing has custom valved/sprung Bilsteins set up specifically for Superformance MkIIIs. Far superior to the original Avos or stock Bilsteins.
