Default Water Temp Sender

I have the Smiths water temp gauge. The sending unit is screwed into my Edelbrock Victor jr. intake manifold by use of a double male nipple fitting. The fitting works great with the sending unit but is the wrong thread size or pattern for the manifold opening. I suspect the nipple is metric whereas the manifold is tapped for SAE. I have been told to simply use a lot of teflon tape on the manifold side. I wonder if there is a better solution.

Is the manifold opening roughly the correct diameter but apparently another thread pattern - or is it much smaller in diameter than the fitting? I had to drill out and tap my FE Ford aluminum manifold with small opening, for the Smith gage fitting.

The hole in the manifold is larger in diameter than the fitting. It is a loose fit. Did you tap your manifold sae or metric?

Ohh - that was the opposite of my situation. I tapped in pipe threads - 3/8 NTP tap. I would think that is what your intake is tap'd for. But, I would also have thought most of the Smith gage sender adaptors were the same. Apparently not.

I believe this is correct info for the adapter.

3/8" x 18 NPT to 3/8" BSP fitting.

Thanks for the info. I'll try to find one locally.
