For those following this, I don't want to leave you in the dark.
He has sent some photos to me offline.
I have identified a couple possible problems and got back to him.
We'll see what develops when he addresses the problems found.
His Alternator hookup looks ok.
Suspect connections on AMP Meter to be checked.
He is charging at close to 15.75volts - so a voltage regulator is suspect.
and he has some nasty repairs on some under dash wiring... The main power cable.
Either way, we'll get it fixed...

Blas, thanks very much for the update. And mercoupe, I'm especially interested in the overcharging aspect of this issue. Please post whatever solution you find.
Thanks.

I did some work on the problem today and have the following results. I am now charging at 14.2 volts at the alternator and have just a little fluctuation on the ammeter.
The charging circuit has 12 ga. wire which is too light for the application. At some point in time the 12 ga. wire got hot enough to melt the insulation off of the wire by a connector under the dash. This was repaired by a male/female plug connector and, as Blas pointed out, needed to be done with a bit more finesse using a butt splice. I found another hot spot going into a connector about 1 1/2 feet from the alternator. I repaired the wires and changed the regulator.
I am going to replace the 12 ga. wire with 8 ga. when I get the wiring diagrams from Blas.
Thanks Blas for all of your help.

Feel free to post your SPF electrical issues here on CC in the SPF area..
Maybe individules should each start their own thread so we don't mix Q&A's...
Remember to include your chassis number and all pertinent factors.
BTW: That includes the new Slabside 289, FIA and Riverside Races chassis too.
And also the CSX4000 chassis...
hahaha...Or email me direct.... 8-)
