Superformance MKIII

Hi Guys!

I live in Europe (Luxembourg) to be precise and I'm looking into importing an MKIII.

I found one at a seemingly correct price and asked for the serial number.

The owner just got back to me with this: K1399AM1848

This looks more like a VIN to me.

Can you guys confirm resp. tell me anything about this?

Yes,

That is a state assigned VIN, not a Superformance chassis number. The chassis number is stamped on the square tube in front located between the shock towers.

The Superformance Cobra Chassis Number exists in one of these four formats:

1.) COB** or COB** - *** 5 or 8 character form: Used on cars up to 031

2.) AC9CSLK1000AM1*** 17 character form: Used on cars 032 through 577 and on cars 579, 580, 582, 583, 584, 586.
The 5th digit character is "S" for side pipes or "R" for rear exhaust - The 6th character is "L" for left hand drive or "R" for right hand drive

3.) SP*** 5 character form: Used on cars 578, 581, 585, 587, 588, 589, 590.

4.) SP0**** 7 character form: Used on cars 591 on.

I think that will turn out to be chassis SP00848.

I just found another one, located in GA, which would make things easier for me, since my family lives there.

It's a Diamond Edition, Roush 427 Engine, Chassis Number 2070.

Car comes with

soft top
lead hammer
wire cutters
fire extinguisher
car cover
tonneau cover
front and rear bumpers
glovebox

Does anyone know this car?

Asking price is $47,000

I already mailed Blas, but he is on a work trip and doesn't have his documentation with him.

Be careful about that Roush engine. I would verify that it isn't an oil eater before you think about buying the car. There have been a few threads on this forum about the propensity of Roush engines to consume more oil than other similarly constructed engines. Their warranty excludes oil consumption. Do a search and then judge for yourself.

I just read up on that and send a mail to the seller asking about this issue.

But I have to say if it goes through 1 quart / 1k miles that's fine with me. When My BMW M3 engine was settling in, it used around that much and the dealer told me that was within specs. It went down after 4k but I'm still at around 1 quart/2-3k

Just my thoughts

I just have to check with the registration authorities tomorrow, because a friend of mine imported an FFR 2 years ago and its still fighting to get it on the road.

But I have been trying to contact board member Skippy, who lives in Luxembourg as well and has an SPF registered here. Maybe he can help me out. His last post goes back some time, not sure if he's still active here. But if anyone has his mail address, I'd appreciate you passing it on to me.

Nobody is talking about a quart every 1000 miles. We're talking about a quart every 50-250 miles. Do your due diligence!
