Superformance removable seat cushion
Just picked up my first cobra today. It was 30 degrees out and I couldn't help but to start meddling with it. One of the first thing I noticed was I need to pick up a few of Lexol's products and condition the leather seats......so I noticed the driver seat felt like the cushion lifted and when I pulled it I heard a small snap. The seat did not come undone from the front but only the back. I'm guessing this wasn't suppose to happen. Do I need to remove the seat and have it reattached? If anyone has any ideas or can tell me if that is normal please chime in. Overall that was the only thing I managed to destroy.....not to bad for a first day

The back end of the cushion is held to the frame with Velcro...no harm done.

Thanks for the feedback. The sound of anything ripping is never a good indication. It was very cold and I was more focused on looking to see if anything had torn. I did notice when I pulled the cushion up that the from was pretty secure but it appeared as if a few of the staples on the fear seat cover had come undone. Sounds like I'm good to go! I plan on removing the seats for a proper cleaning and to detail the carpet to get started. Car is pretty clean but I just want to go over it.

I plan on removing the seats for full detail so I will be able to better inspect at that time.

Right now I have my seats out of the car for another project and after reading this thread I checked mine... there is no velcro holding the rear of the seat cushion. If you pull on it, it will rip the leather on the seat. Just a word of advice.

If you go and hunt down the "How It's Made" U-Tube video on how the Superformance Cobra Replica is made, there is a nice 2 min segment on seat assembly. Or you can send me your email offline and I'll send some screen shots of the seats. Don't confuse the GT40 video with the Cobra video for seat construction information. I'll keep the photos handy. BTW: There were a few seat designs, early design had easily removable bottom cushions.
From the video, it appears the front of the seat cushion is attached with permanent wire clips, and the rear of the cushion just stays in place due to the proximity of the back and side seat surfaces. Not that we can be sure that additional info was excluded from the video. Would be easy to have added additional wire clips on back side of seat cushion to webbing under seat to keep it in place.

Clayboy, could you send or post photos of the bottoms of your seats IF you have sliders on both sides. Questions always arise regarding if the sliders are interchangeable between driver and passenger seats.

Blas,
I will take some photos tomorrow and post them. The short answer is, yes they are.
More info to follow.

My car is a build date in the 1800s. Your description sounds like what may have happened. No worries I will just re-staple it if that's the case
