289 Mk IIs available

We have these two 289 MK II "Slabs" (I still dislike that name...) coming off the boat today. Indigo Blue and Monza Red. Chrome wires, tops, tonneaus, headers and exhausts......ready for powertrain.

Outstanding
The red one would make a great replacement for my Superformance MKIII. Oh, well, I can only dream. OUTSTANDING CRAFTSMANSHIP. Best accurate Slabside replica out there hands down. IMHO of course.

They look great Rick, should not be too long before they are sitting in someone else's garage. Make sure to post some pictures during the build process.

Totally agree with you! I never liked that term either. If you wanted to get really technical, the two models are "Cobra" and "Cobra 427". "Leaf spring" vs "coil spring" also work.
"Slab" or "slabside" just doesn't cut it!

:LOL: It's probably not the most flattering of nicknames, but I don't think Leaf-spring Cobra is specific enough to cut it either. "Slabside" differentiates further within the leaf-spring Cobra category between the flat-sided body/wheel openings and the flared FIA/USRRC, etc. Cobras. Maybe "289 street" or "289 roadster" might be easier on the ears. |

The terms I use are 289 street, 289 racer, 427 roadster and 427 SC
I agree with Larry, but time and again "slab or slabside " is what people recognize.
Many owners of the early cars take exception to the word, claiming nothing square about them.

Interesting. I wonder when the term was coined - was it a replica industry term, or was it used back in the day by enthusiasts and journalists, etc?

I don't want to get too far off the thread topic here. This is about the SPF leaf spring cars for sale.
And they are beautiful BTW! Having some experience with one in real life, I can tell you that from first hand experience!
But... the term "Slabside" was a term that came out of the replica world. On production leaf spring Cobra's, there's nothing flat (or "slab") about the flare. In fact, the only flat part I can find on an original car is where the brake light mounts on the body. The flare is flatter, yes but it's not flat. "Slabside" has become a widely understood term to describe the standard production leaf spring cars and their replicas (to varying degrees) but it's not really an accurate term.
Now race cars are a whole different world for names and descriptive terms. They are different and different from each other but they are still either a leaf spring Cobra (Cobra I) or coil spring Cobra 427 (Cobra II).

For those who inquired about the spring setup, yes they are transverse leaf and done from the AC Cars prints and prototypical samples. Hi Tech was for a short time the majority owner of AC and had access to all of the engineering drawings.
