I liked the look and feel of the original shifter so I removed about 3" from the shaft and welded the upper and lower parts together. The lower cut was placed so the resulting weld is covered by the boot, so it's not visible. For me, it was the perfect solution and it's been that way for almost 15 years. Dave SPF1004.
