They charge 5% of the bid as soon as you bid but if you don’t win they will refund the money.
That’s on there website.

I saw a regular shovel sell at an auction for 3 times the cost of a new one. Nothing special about it unless it was the sons of the estate all wanting their dad's shovel.
I recently saw a relatively new hand gun sell at auction for $550 and a new exact same one regular price is $440. I thought it stupid then a friend said "no that was cheap because there is no paperwork."
That said there may have been some angle we are not aware of that made that car worth more, but it sure looks stupid on the surface.

I watched the last half hour of the auction. I found it interesting that the end of the auction is extended to the 2 minute mark every time anytime a bid was placed inside of two minutes. Bid clock winds down to 30 sec. Someone bids and it resets to 2 minutes. That really extends the auction.

Bill, you bring up a excellent point here. I do remember the "Ferrari Wars" back in 1988-91" when the prices on those cars went nuts, I had a couple of friends that sold their cars, for LARGE sums of money, only to realize they were left with just the money, and no cars, and to get back in they needed to spend that money & more. I know Barrett & Jackson, seem to like to start a trend (Pick-up, Resto-Mods, Muscle cars, Etc) every year. You thinking this may be one of those trends? Thank you Bill, for your fore thought, cheers TommyRot.

Wow - that’s crazy insane. Almost a duplicate of my ERA street roadster except the ERA has an FE, toploader, & 15” wheels. Hope that guy is still around 10 - 15 years from now, when ever I have to start thinking about selling off.

I’m at a loss here. Aren’t high prices on good cars what all of us on this forum WANT to see? I mean we DO have a vested interest in this DON’T we?

@Andheeezonit, clearly you're right, it's great if our cars increase in value, but for most of us that's not the reason we own these cars. The last comment (HYCO) made pretty much say's where his heads at, (250K in 3-years) as a investment, plain & simple. Cheers TommyRot

Nice car - but not $135K nice, with the buyer's premium on top of that. Ouch.

We, meaning the majority of the members on this forum, could care less about past, current, or future selling prices. Why, because we are enthusiasts who enjoy the car, and purchased them as the toys they are, not for the "collectible" value that may or may not come to fruition some time after we are dead and buried. I'm certain there is a small minority that will argue against my words above, but again, they are the minority.
Just my further two cents worth on this subject.
Bill S.

That was the era of "you didn't pay too much, you just paid too early!" Many "investors" ended up losing their hats and fannies as I recall. One genius used his 66 GT350 as collateral for a loan to buy cars to resell. It went well until the market corrected...he had to sell a car for a loss to cover the loan payment. Then another sale upside down. But it will come back he thought. When it was all over he not only didn't have the inventory cars but no longer owned his free and clear GT350 and was still into the bank for some large. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered!

So the buyer is expecting to resell that car for 250k in 3 years. He is probably smoking something funny.
If you have the money and that is the particular car you want and prefer not to wait to wait months to order the same thing new and get it for a lot less, why not go for it.
I don't have 135k cash burning a hole in my pocket at the moment to buy a fun car, but if I did ... I was just looking at some previous sales on bring a trailer. How about this instead?

Oh, wait a minute, check this one out, it is under 100k and comes with a hard top.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...oadster-427sc/
Alright those aren't Superformance, but if a Superformance is what you prefer, what about this one that sold just about a year ago for almost 100k less than the black one sold for yesterday?
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...a-cobra-427sc/
Good luck to yesterday's buyer on getting his expected investment return.

Why shell out $135K for a SPF at an auction, when for around the same money you could buy a Kirkham or Shelby (from Kirkham) anytime. Then you might have a better chance (still small) at selling it for double the money in 3 years.
I spent some time in March this year looking for good solid long term companies that paid decent dividends and were disproportionately beat down in the market sell off. My best stock choice is now up 800%, most are in the 100% to 300% up range, and only one of the fifty stocks is down (but it still is paying dividends). My point is there are much better investments than cars.

The first one was a proper S/C configuration Kirkham and sold to market. The second was a dual roll-bar Kirkham which probably hurt its chances. The hardtop was an interesting throw-in but never-the-less the overall appearance kept it below $100K. That Superformance (third link), despite being an older production build and clearly put away wet each time, was actually a screaming deal. Not representative of medium price points for that brand, but occasionally you find one being given away around $40-42K (and they all tend to have small displacement Windsors and generally show a lack of overall care).
I hope the buyer of the $135K roadster is happy, as at the end of the day the rest of our opinions don't matter.

@olddog, i agree if you can afford to have both (Cobra & stock portfolio). But if I were to have just one, (In our declining years) The Cobra wins hands down Stock's are hard to start, aren't worth a damn on two lane roads, don't show well at car shows, and I have never had the "GOTS" feeling with a stock Cheers TommyRot.

You can buy a CSX for $25k less than that. Something is wrong here. If this is true, would love to sell the winning bidder a bridge since he paid more than double what it's worth.

I stop holding dividend stocks a long time ago. Sold off all in 2008 and invested in tech stocks like Apple, AMZN and QQQ. Haven't sold anything. My car collection, however, was never meant to be an "investment", and anyone who thinks that is a fool.

When you actually find a 40k car, feel free to post it here. Meanwhile telling him that every car posted can be had for 40K is obviously not true or he'd have one.

I actually bought mine in the summer for $38.5k and the advertised price was $45k. Red/white, 351W, 7k miles, like new. Patience pays and don't be afraid to offer 20% below sticker price. The supply far outweighs the demand.
