Default Odometer not working

New to me car I am getting sorted out after sitting for 20 years. 800 miles in 20 years. Test drive the speedo was bouncing 20 mph. Dealer said replace with GPS. Other said that will not work on my car. Good news on the car got it back from PPI it started working again nice and smooth. Needed to get the grease worked around a bit. They had a fuel cell in the car and the had to remove the foam and weld the aluminum tank back up. Said gage never worked after that. Pulling the sending unit to see if it moves freely is on my list. But with the lack of a gauge the odometer comes in real handy. Second tank of gas I reset the trip meter to zero now it is not working. Trip or odometer but the speedo is working flawless now. Any ideas?

Gas gauge isn't to bad. Full it is just past 1/2 full and getting low it is just below the half. 13 Gals is the most I put in her already. It like a motorcycle. Fill up before every ride, If you think you need gas you needed gas 20 miles ago. After and hour or so you need to stretch your legs. Need to check temps and its cold when sun goes down. Heater works good in town. Previous owner said no heat. Pulled the knob and nothing. Hit the Interior Fan Switch and pull out the heat knob-BINGO. Pleasant surprise.

Cobra Valley's Smith's Odometer Gear
Most likely the odometer gear has failed. Easy to fix. See above link.

If you attempt to zero the trip-o-meter with the car moving you usually trash the trip-o-meter gear.
