I was tempted to write a wise-ass response that in order to get the SPF part numbers you have to pay a special fee, but I thought better and decided not to.

As I said, I am 1200 miles from my notes so anything I say is off my memory so you would be screwed!

I will tell Peter to make you give the super-secret handshake to ever get any more ERA details. So, forget ever getting another part for your ERA! You are on double secret probation!

Not a big deal Mark IV. I thought you were local to your shop and just enjoying the weekend. Whenever you get back is just fine.

Your restraint in your old age is impressive Patrick! I remember a time when you would not be able to restrain yourself ...

If he indexed and scanned his notes on to the cloud then he could retrieve them from anywhere and provide us with timely and accurate responses as opposed to excuses.

Now this is the 'old' Patrick of years gone by! Not quite the same as Real 1 but, I see that those old synapses are still firing

Here is a little food for thought on the SPF replacement rotor situation:

The '89 to '92 T-Bird rear rotors are available from AC Delco at PartsGeek.com. <= Clickable
The AC Delco 10" diameter rears are $23.99 each.

The '78 to '90 Caprice fronts are also available from AC Delco at PartsGeek.com. <= Clickable
The AC Delco 12" diameter fronts are $51.99 each.

If you want to spend a little more $ there are drilled and slotted versions available also.

The Delco rotors will require the Wilwood calipers, so if you have a chassis number w/o Wilwoods you have an additional $150 or so to spend per wheel for calipers.

Summit has the front calipers (JL-120-13845) in anodized gray for $150.10 each.
Summit has the rear calipers (JL-120-13840) also in anodized gray, for $150.10 each.

The cost to upgrade from the OEM calipers and limited brake pad choices is relatively low and the ongoing service of the brake system is again quite reasonable.

Something to think about ...

p.s I did not speak to the fact that you will also need caliper brackets to support the Wilwood calipers. A quick search of the Wilwood offerings has prices ranging from about $10 to more than $100, so a visit to Wilwood or Hilbank by phone might be in order so you can more easily identify the correct bracket(s) if you need them.

I don't believe you can get off that inexpensively, Patrick ...

Mark IV, have you had a chance to check your notes since you returned from your trip? The Wilwood part numbers for the components you referenced would be of interest to many of us. If you have them please include both the hat and rotor numbers.

Thanks for any light you can shine on this information.

I am little confused. I am looking for direct replacement rear rotors. Why would I need new calipers if they are a standard Ford T-Bird rotors already. I might up-grade brakes down the road but I personally don't like drilled and slotted rotors on our cars as they are not period correct but that is just me. If tracking it, that would be a different matter. Need the wheels off to get a good picture. Has black calipers. Might just have to pull one and go to the parts store.

Your original post indicated your car was SPF1639. The Superformance documentation extract in Post #9 of this thread provides you with a component listing of the calipers and rotors used in SPF cars 700 through 2636. Your car fits in this range of Superformance vehicle numbers. That means the braking system, as delivered by Superformance, uses the braking system components identified in that extract. The extract identifies your car as having been built with Wilwood calipers and one-piece OEM discs from GM on the front and Ford on the rear.

Someone could have modified your brakes between your car's date of manufacture and when you bought it. If they did, then the Superformance documentation will no longer reflect the braking system on your car. If they did not, the documentation extract in post #9 accurately reflects the braking system your car came equipped with and uses today.

If your brakes have not been modified from the original Superformance provided units, the only components you will be able to find at your local parts store will be the rotors. The pads and anything caliper-related will necessarily have to be sourced from Wilwood.

Whether or not you use drilled and or slotted rotors is entirely an owner-determined election. They are available. If you don't want them, don't buy them. If you do want them, buy them. That is entirely your call. Whether or not your rotors are "standard Ford T-Bird rotors" or not has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not your calipers will need servicing. The only determining factors with respect to servicing the calipers will be their condition, the condition of the brake pads, and what you intend to do about it — this is not rocket science.

I appreciate your info it was just confusing as you listed the part and then said I would need different calipers. I think the only thing modified on this car with 2500 miles is the previous owner had new brake pads installed to try and stop the squealing. How they didn't see the micro cracks in the right rear rotor is beyond me. Or when I had the PPI done on the car pre purchase. Hillbank said I need to pull them and measure them to verify what is there. I am going to order the ones you listed and hopefully that is a match. Thank you Sir.

The caliper comment was being directed at the earlier cars that did not use Wilwood calipers or later cars that were modified to use calipers different than the Wilwoods identified in the SPF documentation. I should have been more specific to avoid confusion. If your car doesn't fit into either of those two groups, you will already have the correct Wilwood calipers.

Mark IV, it would be nice if you could chime in with your information about the Wilwood rotor alternative. I am sure there are more than a few of us that might be interested if it were a reasonably priced, generally available alternative.

Remember he is travelling... and when he does so it is with nothing more than a backpack and a small canteen. Only sparse internet connectivity and no access to any notes, thoughts, scribbles or past musings about Cobras much less detailed info.

I am currently retracing Forest Gump's cross-country run. But in a car, on a different route, going much faster than he did.

I was wrong (geez, don't tell my wife!) about the disc for his car, it IS a T-Bird rear disc....but with a re-drilled stud pattern as the Bird is a metric pattern. I have a set of take-off discs for a MK III that will work. They are drilled to the correct pattern and just need the preservative coating removed.

Currently my walk has me in Connecticut where there is no food or water, and all the Cobras are beige!
