I've talked to Jim enough about his exhaust, he probably wouldn't mind if I answered that Rob at Keith Craft did this exhaust for him. Rob's done others with the same great welding results.

Steve,

If I am guessing right, the particular ERA with a 427 SO that pulled away from you was actually stroked to about 484 or so

Just remember, for about the price of a good 427 SO block alone, you can get about 700HP out that 460.

On my "460", I can unbolt the headers from the heads with the motor in the car (lots of wrist/arm contortion skills necessary), but I would have to pull the motor to get them out.

I am on my third set of sidepipes......ended up using the same Howe muffler as Jim Woodard mentioned. You can roll a baseball through them. Did I mention they are loud?

If you use the Howe, be sure not to point your turnout tips to the ground or your car will lift up off the ground in back when you take off, causing the rear wheels to spin.

Thumbs up Side pipes

Sorry, I've missed some of the questions directed to me. Miles answered correctly to Buzz's question. I had all the pieces and took them to Rob as I didn't trust my welding skills for something like that.

951mat, yes, the Hooker merge collector is a slip in/on fitting for the primary tubes to slip into and then welded around. In regards to your Lone Star, going to 2" primaries amd a better flowing muffler than the stock Lone Star one will definitely make a difference. When I had my Lone Star I used the same set up as I have with my Superformance. I do believe the merge collectors help the flow and that's what it's all about when you want to get power out of those FE's. They have to be able to breath and flow!

JCoop, they are definitely louder than the stock pipes. I don't find them uncomfotably loud but that's pretty subjective.
