New SPF inspection check list
Okay, so I'm supposedly visually inspecting SPF #2540 in two weeks. What are some of the things that I should keep an eye out for, like doors shutting properly and things like that? Is there a way to properly check the paint or do I even need to concern myself with paint? What things are needed to be asked about and looked for? I need a little assistance in this department.
Thanks in advance! :D |
Are you buying #2540 new or used? If it's new...no need to "check it out"...it should be right.
Used...I'd ask for service records...which dealer the original car was bought through...and any crash damage. Unless the current owner has done a poor job of servicing the car, the service records should be furnished. The original dealer will help you figure out how the car was equipped when it was sold...which will help you determine what has and what hasn't been done to the car. Crash damage...unless the fiberglass and paint was expertly repaired...should be readily noticeable. Check in the boot...look at the inner rear fenders...look at the frame and bottom of the car...check the inner front fenders, under the hood, etc. You're looking for any fiberglass that looks like it's been replaced. Paint should be showcar smooth...color sanded, and polished perfectly....no orange peel...no sags or runs. Any of that would make me want to inquire as to crash damage and repair. Look for replaced front A-arms....rear, too. Drive the car....any pulls to right or left...? These cars are very susceptible to out of balance front wheels....if the steering wheel shakes a little at a certain speed, speed up a little and see if it goes away. If it does, it's probably just an out of balance wheel...or out of round tire...both easily fixable. If it doesn't I might suspect a loose steering rack, or an alignment problem...which, too, is fixable and wouldn't stop me from buying the right car. #2540 is a pretty recent car....it shouldn't be in bad shape, if it's used. Hope this helps.... |
SPF 2540 would be very recent. My SPF2457 was November 2006. Hoow many miles reported on it?

I read Freddies post wrong..It's new, not used, right? It's late...
|
Yeah, this is a brand new car. Just got checked in at US Customs in Long Beach--at least that's what I've been told. Miles are probably 1 or less....

What dealer did you get it through? I am getting mine from Dynamic Motor Sports in Reno, mine may have been on the same ship as yours. Mine was scheduled to be here in December to. Just waiting for them to let me know when it gets to Reno. I know it was scheduled to arrive in Long Beach about now. What motor are you putting in yours?

KenM1487,
Have you chosen an installer or you planning on doing it yourself? What color did you go with? Doug |
Ken,
I, too, am going through Dynamic. The car was supposed to be in Long Beach on the 15th, but when I called on the 17th, no one really had any new information. As far as the motor, I'm putting in the 427 W, with AFR heads and other goodies through Smeding Performance. GT Auto is doing the install. I got a checklist from another dealer via e-mail that has all the things that the dealers check off. So with that and the other information that I've acquired I'm probably in good hands...I'm just waiting and waiting and waiting.... |
Hey Mr. Monster,
Superformance should install RFID tags or a global positioning system to to track their shipping containers :D ! My wfe and I took a run up to Reno last weekend to visit with John at Dynamic. We also had a chance to walk around RED and look at some GT40s, Coupes, and MKIIIs that were under constuction. Do you think that RED and GT Auto are pretty comparable? Did you choose GT based on location? Doug |

I am having Stephen at Reno driveline and engine do the install. It is Titanium with Indigo Blue stripes. Ken |

I am waiting and waiting too, I was planning on going up and see John in the next couple of weeks. I will be using mine for weekend drives, but also Autocross. I went with a Roush 402 and the Tremec 5-speed. Can't wait for it to get here. Good luck on yours. Ken |
Hey Ken,
Great color combination! After looking at the dark sliver and titanium side by side at Dynamic, the titanium really stands out. If I buy a new car, my preference would be to go with titanium with black stripes....that is unless there's a titanium with indigo stripes already on the slow boat from SA :D Doug |
Thanks Doug,
Slow boat is right, my original est. delivery date was 12/13/06. It was ordered in October. It took me a while to decide on the color. Still waiting to see what the factory race rollbar looks like. Ken |
Bug, I'm going with GT Auto due to a good reputation and they're 2 blocks south from my house. By "RED" are you referring to the outfit right next to Dynamic? I think the guy's name is Steve. I didn't go with them due to they're being extremely backed up and not local. They seem like a good group tho. All very helpful
|
Mr. Monster - Yeah, it's the place next to Dynamic. Not certain, but I think the name of the installer is Replicars Engines and Drivetrains. About how long will it take GT Auto to do the install once they have the car?
So cool that you got the SB100 deal out of the way prior to the install. Drop the motor and trans in and your down the road!! Doug |
