Default SPF 2XXX is on the way!!

I took the plunge today and ordered a new SPF through Dynamic in Reno .

I'm going with titanium w/black stripes. The car is already in production at the factory and is scheduled to land in Reno in 8 weeks (expcecting 12+ weeks since SPF runs on a different calendar than the rest of the world).

Looking forward to joining the madness!

Actually, it sounds like he ordered a SPF, not a CSX. Thus, I think the reference to SPF 2XXX was probably correct.

Got the Bug, congrats on your purchase of a SPF. They are very nice cars. Any idea what motor you are going to put in it?

I decided to go with the Roush 402 SR. Dual plane intake with a middle of the road cam (I think they call the cam the "twisted wedge"?). Comparing all of the engine choices made my head spin!

Congrats.........SPF's are great cars. I like your color combo too (same as my old SPF). What finish/color are you going with for the roll bar and side pipes?? How about the bumpers??

WooHoo! Mega Congrats! I, too, would like to know what color you are going with for the finish? Are you getting the $250 glove box? Staying with 15" or going with the 17"?

The guys up at Dynamic are a great bunch. They will help you every step of the way..ESP when it comes to the whole SB100 crapola. At least you won't have to deal with that for another 11 months, and it's really not as hard as one might think.

Now your wait begins...and my wait ends. 8 to 12 weeks, hu? I think that's what they told me too. I'll tell ya, that wait really, really, really, really sucks. In fact, it is still sucking today, but the suck might be over for me by next week. To quote Tom Petty -- "The waiting is the hardest part". The good news is you'll be rolling by end of Spring.

Warren - When I was torturing myself about colors, I had your gallery bookmarked...for some reason, I kept going to one particular angle of your car BTW - Nice Pic!

I decided that I was either going to go all black or all chrome. I ended up going with the chrome roll bar, side pipes, and stainless quick jacks. I drove an SPF with the wood wheel and the leather wheel, and really prefer the leather. So, I'm going with the leather wheel but may buy a wood steering wheel later to mix it up.

I can't say enough about what a great resource CC has been an will be. Also, thanks to the people that I've been bugging via email during my decision process.

Probably pretty standard, but my wife thinks I'm crazy. She always says "you were probably one of those boys that rode your bike around with a bunch of playing cards clacking away on the spokes." She's put up with a lot of car stuff over the years...another chapter on the way!

Congrats on your new SPF. I waited and waited for the money to purchase my SPF 02228 from Reed Performance, then changed the color. and waited and waited and waited................ now its too cold and wet to drive....... waiting, waiting, waiting. I had my side pipes ceramic coated black by JET Hot, and added a custom roll bar… just in case.

You are going to love it. I certainly do. Dynamic and Reed are both great to work with. The Roush engines are good but so are the Ketih Crafts motors.
Keith is realy good about letting you spec out your own upgrades and polished hardware.

Enjoy and post your photo's as soon as you have them.

Are you doing your own engine installation?
Roush builds a nice motor. Is that 402 injected or carbureted?

Hey Jim,

I decided to go with Reno Engine & Drivetrain for the install. The Roush 402SR is a carberated version of the 402R. I'm far from an expert, but it's my understanding that the SR version (someone said that it stands for "street rod") is designed to deliver higher torque earlier in the RPM range.

You pay a BIG price in overall HP at the high end, but supposedly the engine is much happier at idle and at lower revs. My goal was ultimate driveability + some get up and go...still has 425HP which should do the job .

I found some info on the web that shows the differences between the 402R, 402SR, 427R, and 427SR.

402SR Aluminum 425 HP
402R Aluminum 515 HP
427SR Aluminum 450 HP
427R Aluminum 550 HP

I just put my deposit down last week and can't wait for delivery!!

Lance (CEO of SPF) has the SR motor in his GT40 and is feels a lot more driver friendly on the low end than the R motor. My car has a more radical cam than the 427R motor and does not like to be below 2k rpm. The cars I have ridden in with the 427R seem to have the same issue, just not as bad as my car. It does not bother me, but I know some would not like it. The SR motor in your car should be very driver friendly for you.

Hey SP01715,

I met with Lance in November to test drive a used (dark Silver) SPF that they were selling. I took a look at Lance's GT40, but there wasn't time for a ride that day. You mentioned that your inlaws live in Santa Cruz. I went down to the Hot Rods at the Beach http://www.hotrodsatthebeach.com/index.html event in October and there were about 8 Cobra's there...pretty fun event.

Got the Bug,

I also went with the Roush 402SR but with the twisted wedge cam. It tops at about 500/500 but the torque comes in sooner, 469 ft at 2900 RPM. I contacted Roush and they sent me a dyno sheet so I could see what the numbers were. I don’t want a carb so I went with the Mass-Flo fuel injection system. I think the fuel injection will be a lot better for drivability, the Mass-Flo system looks like a carb system and all the feedback I have gotten has been positive. Reno Engine and Drive line is doing my install also. The car should be delivered to Reno next week, after a little detour. I will be auto-crossing with mine so I want the torque for getting out of the corners. Good luck with your car.

Ken,

Stephen also recommended the twisted wedge cam for the 402SR motor that I'm ordering.

I didn't look at a spec sheet for a 402SR (w/twisted wedge) comparing carburation vs. fuel injection. I found the HP estimates that I previously posted in an older article that read about Roush motors. Maybe the HP is higher .
