What if....you were to add a plate - for now lets just say 4" square in size...now mentally divide it into 4 -2" squares....you drilled a bolt hole in the center of one of the 2" squares that is the same size as the hole in the tab on the chassie for the existing hoop...now if you put this new plate on the car it would bolt to the existing hoop mount and butt-up against the chassie for the full 4" of plate length opposite the new hole you drilled....you now could move the new hoop to the center of your dtive shaft - you might want the plate to be 4"x6" depending on real measurements....just thinking...

Dean,

I think that looks MUCH better. I'd abandon the hoops I've fabricated so far, EXCEPT that mine will cover the top 180° of the U-joints also. Maybe that's overkill, though; I don't know how likely the U-joints and yokes are to frag and go through the car. Now make one for the front. I do like the way it looks.

I think the way to mount two hoops is to use the three bolts which mount the rear of the transmission to hold a front bracket or the front end of the plate you're talking about...if I understand what you're saying. Did you get the photo I emailed you?

I put one in a CCX recently and it fit quite well from a Mustang/Summit kit FMS-M-5478-C2. The beauty of it was I cut the bottom plate to length, used the ends I cut off to make tabs to weld to the frame, did minimal bending and persuasion to get it in there, it also gave me solid steel mounts for the inside of the seat belt where it had previously been through glass with a washer

In the interests of full disclosure I actually set the car on fire welding the tabs to the chassis but that's a story for another thread...............
