Track Day
Last Saturday I had the chance to try out the modifications I did over the winter in my SPF. I added the 17" wheels, Kumho tires, changed out the headers and used the classic chambered mufflers, replaced the rubber bushings with poly bushings, QA-1's, changed out the springs with different spring rates. We had several MK III's, I believe an FFR that drove up from LA and the GT present at the Fernley, Nevada track along with miscellaneous other cars. The purpose of the session was to get our track license. The instruction was excellent with about a 2:1 student/instructor ratio supplied by Procontrol racing schools. The exhaust and suspension modifications made a huge difference in the car. Other then the cone rash and knocking off the wiring on the oxygen sensor everything went well . We have dubbed one of the new SPF owners Pigpen after leaving the track into the dirt/gravel apron during the course of training, his name will remain unknown . Ordered the quick releases for the steering wheels to interchange the wood (would not recommend for the track) to a smaller diameter leather wheel, also ordered the Ken Miles seat. Beautiful day and received excellent training in the car to determine its limits and driveability, would recommend to anyone wanting to experience their car's capabilities.
