Default Licensed by Shelby

Are the cars built before the Shelby deal with Superformance considered licensed by Shelby?
Thanks, John

I would Call Lance at Hillbank to be sure, but I was told the answer is yes by a guy that works there. He also said that the coupes built before the deal were also register eligible because they are now recognized as "Shelby Daytona Coupes".

I called Hillbank and tried to order an "SPF / Shelby Authorized" vin tag for my car. Since my car was built just prior to the agreement I was told I could not get one. Only cars built after the signed agreement could display the 'authorized by' vin tag.

I have never even seen one of those tags, not even on the new rollers they have there. Do you have a pic of one?

They do have a big sign on their wall when you walk in that says the cars are licensed by Shelby, but I have never actually seen anything on a car.

This is from the Superformance website. I haven't received my car yet, so I can't post a picture of the plate on it. (It's on the boat! )

First one I have ever seen. I wonder when they started doing that? They have brand new rollers at Hillbank that don't have that plate. Pretty cool.

That's a very obvious place that plate is mounted so I wonder if maybe they attach the plates when the roller is sold? I definitely would have noticed that when I was looking at the rollers not more than a few weeks ago.

I purchased SPF 2220 in the fall of 2005. The folks at Dynamic commented it was one of the first that they had seen with new style plate on it. It seemed to be a much bigger deal for them then it was for me.

2293 came with the plate, but it's not installed and the chassis number isnt scribed onto the plate. So right now it's sitting on my workbench. One of these days I'll get it engraved and maybe mount it.

I talked to Hillbanks today and found out the only superformances that are licenced by shelby are the ones that have paid the 2k licence fee. If you have an older one like mine you can pay the fee and low and behold shelby recognizes it.........Btw all the new one have the fee included..........

...and for a fraction of that, about $200, he'll sign the glove box of your Street Beast, thus making it 'official' or something... 'Licensing' now available on your SPF for a mere $2000 (glove boxes are extra).

Do I understand thudmaster correctly that, for two grand, you can buy licensed Shelby registry recognition for the series of car you own, thus making it a "real one", but, if you don't buck up its just "another" replica?

So this really is about how much you are willing to pay out to be recognized in the registry, period.
I wonder, if any replica owner were to approach SAI with enough money how much they would charge for said recognition, thus turning their replica Cobra into a "real one".
Huh, two grand and its a Real 1. I guess you got off lucky in a way thudmaster, consider what guys are paying these days for a "real 1" and all it takes for you is a couple grand.
Thats what it has always been about with SAI, and a lot of other companies for that matter though, you want the name (and registry) you buck up.

I guess we will see how future collectors regard a "real 1" car of this production era, that at this point is flooding the market and producing an unlimited amount of cars, (do you think they will stop producing cars just so SAI owners can watch their car values rise?) as opposed to builders of the 60's which produced the limited amount of 900 give or take.

Business being business, if you have a chance at the authenticated badge/#plate for two grand, and that purchase will transform your car into a real 1, you should give it serious consideration, if you do call me will you, I want to watch this magical transformation, oh, sorry, that happens in your checkbook.

All the $2k buys you is the SPF plaque outlined in previous posts--no CSX number or placement in the Shelby Registry.

SPFs are great cars. Who really cares about what the plaque on the car says? I couldn't imagine someone who has an older SPF forking out the money for this.

No matter what you do or who you pay it is not a "real one". It is a repli-car and not a true collectable. Licensed by Shelby is about money in his pocket. Buy and drive the car because you like it and they hall serious ass.
