Polishing Superformance Rims
Are the rims that come on the Superformance clear coated? Anyone know? I am trying to find the right polish to use on them.

Mine weren't. I use Mother's first, then bowling alley floor wax. Works great and stays bright for a long time.

I polished mine with Mother's too. But I did not wax them. But I did jack up the car so the wheel was off the ground. It made the work of polishing a lot easier.

Wheel Polish
Try meguiars NXT all metal polish. I found the results to be very impressive.
Its made for non cleared wheels.

Mother's Billet (about $10 for a very small glass jar) is outstanding.

I have never used this stuff as I keep meaning to order some, but the people that have used it rave about the results...

James, I've used that, too. Works very well, but I find it a little "messier" to use than the pasty Mother's Billet. The Cobra Valley Metal Polish is more of a soupy liquid and it really is good stuff. I use it on my ceramic coated sidepipes and other large areas where I don't mind a little mess hitting the garage floor. It's amazing how many concoctions are out there that work!

Although I used Mother's on my rims last year, I just got thru cleaning my valve covers with a cleaner made in Germany .... Autosol.
I first cleaned a section with some other brand(s) of aluminum cleaner and then tried the Autosol - I think it gave a better shine.

Chapter 2 on this stuff (FYI). I spoke to the owner of Cobra Valley (RT) and he explained to me that his polish is loose by design and from the inputs of the end users that helped him test it. You can allow the polish to settle (to separate the components), then siphon off some of the liquid component to make it form more of a paste. He tells me that it's actually more potent and a BETTER polish in the paste (i.e. concentrated) form, but it's just easier to apply and clean off when in a more liquid form.
Just setting the record straight for those that want to try it. It's also a good chance to check out his online store...lots of cobra stuff.

The wheel guy that polished mine gave the following instructions:
Wax freshly polished wheels wiht Meguiars Clear Coat Paste Car Wax. Maybe twice a year, you might need to repolish them with Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish.
The biggest thing (and he made a BIG deal about it) is to use Viva paper towels. Nothing else. It's the only paper towel made from 100% twice-spun cotton and won't scratch.

I use What a Shine and Zepher polish from truck supply shops. It is fairly cheap and easy to use. I have Mothers also, but this stuff is easier to use.
Scott.
PS: Miles, I had to bite the bullet and get the Michelin's. Haven't got to try them out to much except when the guy in the Porsche thought his car was fast .

Guys,
I bought polish at S & K Speed Shop in Long Island and I swear by it. It is called BROOKLYN BALL BUSTER. It contains petroleum distillate and jewelers rouge. IT WORKS !!!

I can never get my rims to shine like some of the others here. My centers are painted gun metal grey, and the outer rim can only be cleaned not shined. Im at a point where I will only hose them down and wipe them off 'cause any more work is a waste of time.
