I'm real happy with my Superformance.
I think the engine is selected for personal preference and purpose.
Do you want to look original, save money, enhance acceleration or?

Done Deal
Today is a good day!! I closed the deal for my cobra and decided to go with the 460. I should have it in about 40 days.
Thank you all for your input, eveyone has been incredibly helpful.
I will post pictures when she comes.
Regards,

Very good. You'll have fun.
What was it that made you go with the 460 big block?

Couple of things
More HP with out going with a full race cam, so I assume smoother but equally violent ride. Price difference was negligable. No chance of regrets later.

Are you boring and stroking the 460? I believe Eric at PE offers a 557 ci motor that's a bored and stroked 460.
What target HP and TQ for your engine?
It sounds exciting. Congratulations!

I bought mine from Dynamic. They did a fine job.
I went with a Keith Craft engine and I can say enough good things about Keith and Rob. They are two of the finest, quality minded, ethical people I have ever delt with. Since buying my engine I have had personal realtionship with Rob and Keith. There is nothing better than doing business with a friend.
You are going to have to transport the car from OH to NY. I recommmend Rich from Classic Transport.
He does awesome work to.

Kur

460?
Ditto Rich with Classic Transport. Did a great job and loves these cars, so he'll take care of your baby.
LuvDaBlues (Steve) is a friend who recently bought an SPF with a 460. I think if he had to do it over again, he'd go with the 427. PM me and I'll give you his cell for more details.
The 460 is a truck motor, larger block, more torque, but can be stroked to get it up in HP. The 460 absolutely fills the engine bay. I mean it's stuffed. To change the spark plugs, you have to unhook the motor mounts and raise the engine.
Also the 460 will have a more limited resale customer base. Someday, somewhere, you'll probably sell it. When you win the lottery and want a CSX or when the wife comes home and announces "We're having twins!" The 460 will appeal to less folks.
Hey, Chris, you will love this car and it will love you back. You'll be happy as snot and go through the rest of your life with a grin on your face.
Just scattershooting while thinking about different big blocks....

Hey Chris,
Congratulations! You may have already mentioned it, but what color did you go with? Did you purchase a car that was already in stock at Dynamic?
40 days...you won't even have time for buyer's remorse...get that garage in order so the baby has a new crib to come home to

Chris...
I worked with Jim Gander at Dynamis in Ohio and had a GREAT experience dealing with him and that organization...After researching the engine builders I went with Eric at Performance Engineering....I talked for a few hours with him and what he could do for me versus a crate engine....after discussing the choices I went with a 351 w stroked to 418 with the medium 600 cam (a little less lope) but is producing 510 Hp.....after 4500 miles the car runs GREATTTTTT and there is no where I can take it that doesn't draw attention...as far as colors go I was stuck on either Indigo Blue w/titanium stripes or Sunset Red w/titanium stripes but Jim Gander had quite a few cars in when I went to make my choice and he had an ALL Sunset Red with NO stripes and this is ultimately the car I chose!!
Good luck on your decisions...

To change the spark plugs you just have to remove the valve covers, you don't have to unhook the motor mounts and raise the engine....you small block guy's make me laugh

I purchased SPO1045 from Snake Pit Auto (SPF dealer LI/NY) and had engine built and installed by Billy Andrews at HRE motors. I could not have asked for a better combination or experience.

Well, bad news went from better to a non issue. So, I guess I can change the plugs with out a hoist.
Wow it really fills up the engine compartment. How do you like the 550HP 460? Does it feel nose heavy at all?

Hi CB...y SP has the 460 550/545 from Ford Racing. It has been totally reliable, very fast, and makes an awesome sound. Open the hood and WOW! ..heck my photos for a pic of engine. Olthoff Racing installed the drivetrain perfectly.

Hey, my hat is off to all you manly men with 460's but really, isn't the steering feel heavy as hell? How do you feel after a long drive on twisty roads? I want a car that I can spend all day in on twisty roads and not feel like I have done 12 rounds with a heavy weight boxing contender.

Then you don't want a Cobra, you want a Porsche.....

I think the notion that an SPF is "nose heavy" with a 460 CI is nonsense. It does weigh slightly more than the small block 351 aka 427 but small when distributed throughout the chassis. Want reliability, huge torque and HP at good price - consider 460/514 w/Aluminum Super Cobra Jet heads (the best) by John Kaase . You won't be disappointed.

Maricopa, you are right. For 25 years I have been ready to buy my Cobra replica and then at the last minute I went and bought something else, l.e. 4 Porsches, 4 Corvettes, M Roadster, etc. BUT NOT THIS TIME! There is a Roush 427 powered snake in my future! Unless I get a Viper. No, no Viper.
