Default speedometer-smooth & accurate.now

i thought this might be of some help to anyone interested.the smiths speedo on #1739 was really starting to annoy me w/jerky operation, no confidence w/actual speed. tryed new cable, lubing, re routng for less turns, & just about everything else.
the solution was a new electronic smiths speedo # sn5346-02cb from nissonger, after some research the sender for tremec-ford#e9tz-9e731a
swapped over existing gear which was in perfect condition.unit was easily programmable, (came out of the box only off by one increment).the harness was very easy after getting wiring diarams from blas, just used existing harness for reverse switch (not bieng used) right next to starter selonoid.at dash side to left of steering coulmn un plugged junction to rear for reverse lamps, & used two wires for speedo.works like a charm, only difference in appearence is the odometer has a digital lcd.

Good info, thanks, I'm going to save those part numbers. My Smiths speedo had gone out a while back, froze up completely and stripped out the little nylon gear in the right angle (reverse) drive unit. The repair sounded worse than a replacement so I bought a new Smiths mechanical speedo from Nissongers and it is working fine. I plan on keeping the old unit to prove mileage total for whatever that is worth

Tim,
Thanks so much for the info including part numbers. Mine broke at the connection of the cable into the back of the unit.
Because of how much it was shaking, I was ready to go electronic anyway.
Enough tweaking, crimping, straightening, etc.

Were you able to get all of the parts from Nissonger, or did you have to get the sender from someone else? My speedo is driving me crazy.

Tim ..it was nice to meet you on the Bear MT trip...two months ago I brought my speedo to nissonger ..the odometer got stuck at 10,000...the wait for repair was lengthy so I bought a new one...I took apart the old one, figuring it's already broke...but somehow i freed up the wheels and now it's back in the car...and bouncing as normal....I have a new one for sale ...
