Default MKIII rear axles

I have a Superformance MKII #2347. I recently broke my rt. rear axle. Does anyone know if there is a domestic or import car that uses this same axle?

I think it's a custom length. Get in touch with the Olthof or Lance Stander. Either one will probably have one in stock.

Snaykbyt - Where and when did you buy your car? #2347 is pretty new. You should check with your dealer to see if they'll replace it under warranty.

Greg;

Can you share the specs you gave them for the replacement shafts?

I do not know if its true, but I heard the new rear end in the SPF's is used in BMW's.

But if I broke an axle, I'd go to a specialty axle manufacturer for replacements. But first I would call Dennis Olthoff 704-647-9924 or your local SPF rep.

Where did it break?

If you car is less than a year old, your dealer should replace the axle. Does your car have the Australian Dana rear end or the Ford 8.8? I don't recall when the change was made. I don't recall hearing of any axle failures with the new rear ends.

I understand some folks have had good luck with the Driveshaft Shop but I didn't. I sent back three sets of axles before I gave up on them. The first set didn't fit, the second set had used Ford outers and the third set had used aftermarket outers, even though Frank at the DSS insisted the outers with the ends all marked up by hammer blows were "new". To his credit, he did refund the purchase price but not the cost of shipping.

I ended up having a set of axles custom made by a local shop. Their performance products engineer was and has been very helpful but said his company is really only interested in manufacturing more of these axles on a volume basis if someone wants to place a wholesale order and then retail the individual axles.

My new axles have a splined inner stub with a flange on the outer end to accept a flat CV joint similar to the ones on the new SPF axles. I upgraded to a 31 spline differential carrier at the same time, although these splined stubs are manufactured with either 28 or 31 splines. The axle shafts were custom made and we reused my outer splined CV joint cups but with upgraded internals manufactured by this same company. I've had these axles in my car since June (4K miles) and have had no problems. Over the winter they plan to make me another complete set with flat CV joints at both ends. The big advantage to the flat CV joints is that they can be easily disassembled for servicing or to replace the boots.

You're welcome to email me or PM me for more info if you want.

I don't know the specs.

The Driveshaft Shop does the broken half shafts for Superformance regularly. They should know the correct specs if you tell them which rear end you have. As I understand they're down the street from the Olthoff facility. Maybe call the Olthoffs, www.olthoffracing.com ,for a reference and to identify the correct rear end in your car. I have the Ford 8.8 rear end which use to be used in the Superformance. Your car should have the new type of rear end. You might want to take a picture of your rear end and show it to someone familiar with the rear end types used in Superformance to be completely certain before ordering, but I strongly suspect you have the new type.

Greg;

I'm running chassis number 2627, so it's the later Dana third-member in our car. I'm very concerned about the half shafts with the amount of torque my PE 514 is putting out, and am on the lookout for anything that would strengthen a potential point of failure.

The new rear diff's (Dana) are the same ones that were in the new Pontiac GTO's.

Thanks for everyones help. I contacted Dennis today and he is sending one up for me. He has a local guy make them up, that may be the driveshaft shop. My car arrived in Dec. '05, I believe it was one of the last ones to be delivered to Canada. It has the new Dana diff and yes I understand it is the same as the one in the GTO.
