Default Tires / Tyres / Tired - SPF

Guys,

Steve Here, --So I have SPF 2734 on its way to me and it came with (comes with) Badyears GT2's. I noticed that others are running Yoko AVIDs but they are no longer available in distribution. I contacted Michelin's Customer services ( USA ) and asked if they had anything in anywhere close that size, or if i could custom order something, in a pilot sport/exalto -- they were un interested in helping the least little bit.

I dont want to put 16"s on the car, (keeping 15"s) and I feel Avons are just nutty for a street car.

so the question is, -- have we thought about approaching the Mfr Yoko and ordering a batch of Yoko Avids for us>? what other tire options are out there in HR/VR land >? Lemmie hear your thoughts.

Cant wait till 2734 gets here.

--Steve.

PS: An Update / 05-28-2008, I spoke to a rep at Yoko Coporate (LA) and they are looking into bringing some sizes of the Avid H4s' and V4's Back into production, this should be easier than you think , as they were MADE IN USA. they are also looking to extent their reach into the vintage car market, supporting original mini coopers and more 1960's cars. The thinking is that the guy who buys for his vintage car, also probably has a fleet of family vehicles to keep running. --More news as it happens.

Why do you think Avons are "nutty" for a "street car?"

You've got quite a bit of money tied up in your SPF roller and engine. Why not spend a little bit more to put some performance tires on the car (assuming you will at least enjoy a bit of "spirited" driving on occasion)?

What engine are you putting in the car, and how do you expect to drive the car?

Yes, the Avons are pricey. But, they can make a huge difference in the performance of your car.

Other 15" options include drag radials or Goodyear Billboards (which look great, but some guys don't like the bias-ply characteristics).

Default Have you looked at Dunlop

PANAVIA Have you looked at GT Qualifiers from Dunlop. I run them on all my street cars. They are alot better all the way around in performance that BFG's IMO. I started with BFG's. They are good for burnouts. Poor in all other driving conditions. Put the raised white letters in, car will look fine. You can always go to the GY billboard tires at about double the price of GTs. Tire Rack $69.00 each on some sizes. Rick L.

Mickey Thompson is making 15" tires now. I think they are called Sportsman SR radials. Look on their website.

I don't have an engine in yet but the wheels came in and I put the MT's on. They look great and feel very soft. Can't wait to put some horses on them. 15 inch.

Hey Steve - Make sure you do a search for tires on Club Cobra and then sit back with your favorite beverage to read all of the posts. I like the look of the 15" wheels, but it does limit your tire choice. Spend the $$$ and go with the Avons.

I filed a web form request to yoko (Yokohama) to see if we can get the AVIDs in our sizes BACK in distribution. (i told them that there are Almost 3000 SPFs and 20K other repro cobras, and that we all need good tires.

Steve:

I feel your pain. I too spoke with Michelin's CS earlier this year to inquire about 295 15's in the BFG line. They told me (back then) that sometime this June/July they were re-releasing that size. Keep Diggin'!

+1

These are definitely worth looking into. You can get big and you can get drag radials.
