Question Installing Rubber Boot with Hella H4's

I swapped out the headlights on my SPF with Hella H4 replacements.

The light assembly comes with a rubber boot to keep moisture out. I tried to install it, but the rubber piece is too thick in the middle to connect the wiring harness to the bulb. Curious if people just leave the boot off or if there's another solution.

Watch to see if the higher heat of the H4 bulb doesn't (over time) destroy the light assembly (older cars use the Wipac lens S4701). Did you upgrade to the 130w/90w bulb? If so, be prepared to replace the headlight relay from time to time...Yours is a newer car I believe...Do you have the mfgr and part number available for my reference?

Hi Blas,

I bought the following:

"H6024D Two Lamps with Hella 60/55w Xenon +30% Long Life H4Bulb"

from http://www.rallylights.com/hella/7in.asp to replace the stock Sylvania sealed bulbs.

Doug,

I have the same lamps and bulbs. Didn't have any trouble with the boot and the 65/55 watt bulbs are just fine. I thought about the higher wattage lamps but didn't think that taxing the wiring was worth the extra light.

Perhaps cutting the center of the boot to fit the connector will allow the proper connection.

Jim
