Some of the early cars had a 3:73 rear end, but I think that was when they used the T-Bird rear end. Eric, you can go recalculate your ratios.

Yup. I was reminded of that earlier today when I pegged the rev limiter a couple times. 3.73:1 gear + happy SB = high revs very quickly.

Huh...
I thought for sure it was a 3:55. But it isn't really right compared to the calculator anyway.
I will be under the car this week checking a few things out, and will see what the ratio is.
KC builds a really nice motor, lots of power!

Any more miles on it?
Would you recomend the dynatek system?

I drove the car into work this morning, 34 degrees. Car was in the garage, but cold. The car started right up with minor feathering of the gas, and drove right down the street, no problems.
You can not beat the WOW factor when you pop the hood. I'm not kidding, the system looks sick.
As I said before, we had tuning issues and I am still breaking in the clutch and motor with less than hard acceleration. So I am still not a good reference.
Right now, I would say that if you are close to Dynatek, I would not worry as much as someone that is 4-5 hours or more away about tuning issues, since you could roll down the street to their office.
But the choice of ECU's would be a key factor if I were buying another, and who is responsible for the tuning, with an eye towards "drivability". If I would have known I could have a FAST ECU, I would have one. The ECU I have is different, and different is a learning curve for your local dyno shop.
I will post more as I get it.

Eric, may I ask why you decided not to use FAST or why another ECU was provided with your Dynatek kit? Or is the blue ECU that you mentioned Dynatek's own proprietary model?

Rod,
When I spoke to Dynatek prior to having Keith order the system for my engine, I was told about the self learning ECU that made corrections itself, and I felt that I was getting that ECU with my system (see past posts). I did not know I could get a FAST ECU at the time, but I would have gone with what Dynatek recommended anyway since I wanted them to be responsible.
However while tuning the car it became apparent that the ECU was not changing anything on it's own. When we asked Dynatek we were told that the self learning ECU had problems, and this ECU was better. When Tom from APE came out and performed the tune (Dynatek covered his trip completely) he said that he was the one making the wiring harnesses for Dynatek, and he (they) had no trouble supplying a harness for a FAST ECU.
Knowing what I know NOW, I would opt for the FAST ECU, or another more common ECU.
The "Blue" ECU is a Dynatek unit, as is the software.

Eric, do you know anything about the various differences between FAST, Haltech or Electromotive? Could you change out the ECU to one of these instead or is that like starting from ground zero again.

Scott, Thanks for the kind words. You would have to ask Keith about what he thinks. I am still running out the car, and general operation of the car is great.

I know enough to be dangerous.
I "originally" did not want to learn about the fuel injection, but as I get into the tuning of the car I can tell you that it isn't THAT hard.
I am doing homework right now to find out what ECU would do the best job of managing the system, and then switching over. I am sure the harness will need changes, but more where it connects to the ECU, since the inputs (O2, throttle sensor, etc...) are already in place.
If anyone has thoughts on the ECU's, this would be a good place to post them!

Okay,
I jumped into SPF 2715 this morning at 5:30 (it was in the garage), with St. Louis weather at 45 degrees. The garage is not heated, but is insulated.
Turned the key, motor fires right up! Back up car out of garage, and realized I set the garage door opener on the lawn tractor, so I jumped out of the Cobra and walked in to get the opener.
On the way back it struck me....The car is still running! It was "camming" along at 800 rpms, puffing white exaust (it's cold out), but the d@mn thing is running!
I have had carb'd hot rods and race cars almost my entire life, and I do not think any of them ever did, or ever could have run like that without warming up.
The drive to work (10 miles, half interstate, half not) was fantastic, car ran like a champ.
It does have a stumble between 1st and 2nd on a "harder shift", but it repeats so I think that is just a tune adjustment.
More to follow, I am getting my lipstick cam recorder set up, and there will be vids.

Shelbyfest 2009!
So I rolled out to the Shelbyfest in Hermann Missouri on Saturday, and thought some of you might like to see these two pictures..
Now 2715 has 340 miles on it, and I am getting to understand my induction system

I hope the next project is a re-designed, bigger gas tank. EFI likes fuel pressure un-interrupted, and the stock SPF gas tank would appear to be flat on the bottom inside.
Guess what happens on 1/4 tank and letting loose 666 lb-ft???
The gas gets scared and runs to the back of the gas tank!
