Default Cooling Fan Operation

When the thermostat kicks the fans on, are they both supposed to come on at the same time? I thought so, but never paid much attention until I noticed only one fan running yesterday.

depends on whar setup you have, mine is setup for the puller fan to come on when the water reaches 180, the pusher fans are on a toggle switch

Archrms, both fans should come on at the same time. check the plug on the other fan and make sure it has power, if not you may have a bad fan . also try the wiggle test, plug could be loose.

My SPF, both fans come on at the same time. Turn the fan switch located on the dashboard and see if they both come on. If not, you have a bad ground (maybe not, because most grounds are grouped together on SPF's) or a bad motor, a bad fuse or a bad relay. Another thing could be just a bad connection at the fan. Pull off the pigtail and see what it looks like. Clean both ends and reinstall the connector.

I'm assumining you have your owners guide that shows the fuses and wiring diagrams.

Edit - my SPF has dual fans, each with its own fuse and relay, with the optional fan switch on the dashboard.

Also, you can get a great wiring diagram from Blas on this site.

Wiring diagrams for ALL Superformance series MKIII cars are now available....

Warren, I will run the wires, and check the connection, ground, ect. this weekend, as it was late when I got it home last night. I have the wiring diagram from Blas, hopefully it will be an easy fix and I wont need that level of detail

Yes, you should see it on the wiring diagram you got from me.
Don't forget the newer cars had a individual relays for each fan motor.
I would first try swapping out the relay for the offending fan. That
relay is real cheap, easy to find and you should probably always
carry a spare anyway. Call if you have a problem.

I switched the wires from the non-working fan to the working one, and the fan worked. When I put the wires back onto the non-working motor and flipped tha fan switch, they both worked. Flipped switch off, then back on again, and now the one fan will not come back on again (same one that did not work before). Does this sound motor or relay related, and how can I test it further to determine which is at fault?

The no cost way is trade the working fan relay with the non working fan relay.

Don,
You know I FINALLY passed him on the last session,Turn 1.

That was only because he didn't realize it was me coming around him! That's a fact.He would have put a blocking move on me.

If the boobs in the avatar were in the same house as me,I sure wouldn't be here posting.
