Oh, I'm perfectly aware of all the benefits of IRS.
I simply don't care.

They can call it a big dumb live axle all they want, I'm not offended.

Give me the toughest, simplest, most durable rear end there is - I'm done.
There will be plenty of other maintenance issues on any car, I like to eliminate as many as possible.

I suppose I could always buy a new Vette or some European exotic, but that's not my style.
An American V-8 in a tiny car is all I'm really after, cheap, simple and fast.

As a crane operator for many years, and a private pilot, I've seen too many cases where the problems of overly complex machinery are not worth any perceived advantage when it bites you on the ass in a spectacular fashion.

I may be on a computer, but I'm a stone tablet and chisel kind of guy....

Then don't even think about putting in an FE.

Well....
I was thinking 460. Again, relatively simple. A little lighter than an FE too.

I know the FE motors are legendary and all that, but I've never really liked them.
I had several in old cars and pickups years ago, I know lotsa people who drag raced them.
Like me, they went to the 460 when possible.

I don't intend to build a monster motor, somewhere around 450hp/450 torque would be adequate.

How do they compare for fit and maintenance in the Cobra body?

Here's my broken Superformance half shaft from car 2040. I can confirm it stinks to have it break. Being it was obvious the part was not sufficient for the job I replaced both half shafts with a stronger pair from The Driveshaft Shop as well as the internals in the Ford 8.8 to a Detroit Tru-trac keeping the 3.73 gear.

looking at the metal in the half shaft above, man it really does look like junk with a hardened outside, but then again I'm no expert on metal.

Looks like it'll be an FE and a 9 inch for me....
