Superformance Front License Bracket
Have any of you Superformance owners bought the front license bracket (pictured below) from Finish Line Accessories. If so, does it fit perfectly or does it cover part of the marker light? Can you guys show pics of yours installed on your SPF?
Thanks

I dont know about all SPF dealers but I have seen many varied front brackets on SPFs when traveling to Ohio events . So hopefully you get some good feedback here from folks in states who require front plates .I know some came from SPF dealers and some were offbrand .
However, I did see a neat one that hung down in front of the grille opening from the top when car was stationary but swung up out of the way when car was at speed . kinda slick . Dennis Olthoff I believe was the source of that style bracket assembly. Worth a contact perhaps as it does not impede airflow while driving and did not cover up marker lights . Now, wouldn't that officer be surprised to stop a car thinking there was no front plate and then looking at the car with a plate hanging fully in view ! Bill

Funny you mention, yesterday I took a neighbor for a ride and decided to contirbute to the tire business. Did a decent burndown but backed out of it by the time I hit third gear. Look behind me at the stop light and there is Houston Police Deparment. He follows me for about 1 mile and pulls me over. Walks up and tells me next time you decide to spin the wheels make sure a cop in not around. I told him the car was new to me and I was still learning it, he did not buy it and said is that why you do not have a front licence plate. I figured it was better to just shut up at that point and he smiled told me to have a nice day and to look around before lighting up. He said he did not even want to pull me over but so many people were glaring at him since he was sitting right there he had no choice, LOL!!! Did not give me a ticket either, guess I will contribute to HPD's 100 fund this year.

Thanks Bill. I do have a preference for one that hangs below the marker light. Anybody with pics of various brackets and where they bought theirs would be much appreciated. Thx.

I ordered mine, but it did not come with the small bracket that attaches to the turn signal light. To attach the plate to the car, you have to cut both front bumper bracket rods to align the license plate bracket with the front of the car. Once the rods are cut back about 3 inches from the bumper, then slide on the plate bracket, then slide on the short pieces of the rods, and then put the bumperette back on the car. I think the rod cuts are not reqired if you have quick jacks, but I'm not sure.
I called FinishLine after I got mine, and they said the support bracket is only required with and original aluminum car (and they did not have any of the small brackets left).
Its still on my long list of to-do items for this winter.

Dennis told me to just use a couple of short pieces of wire and attach it inside the grille opening using a couple of ultra short screws. Then it swings up at speed.

I like your bracket but it is almost criminal to put such a linear object on one which is built on all radiuses. Although your brakect and plate look great, i hope I never have to put one on my car.

just thought it was the right thing to do at the time since I had been pulled over several times in other cars for no front plate......never put one on the Kirkham and don't have one on the Lotus. I do have one on the M3 just because the holes had already been drilled in the front bumper and I drive it more.

It really ruins the look of the front of the car. I have that expensive bracket, but havnt put it on yet. Cops give me a thumbs up more often than not. I went through an inspection spot check and the cop asked me about the car for a few minutes then waived me on.
Im gonna push my luck for as long as it lasts.

...but like Max sez "it is almost criminal".....and so I don't have a front plate and although a couple of cops have checked out the car, none have mentioned the plate so I am not going to put one on till I get in their data base with a warning or a ticket. On another subject, I always thought it was curious to see California Plates on the Shelby Cobra's in races like the Targa in 64 ???

I keep mine in the trunk with a couple of wire ties. That way if they get real crazy I can stick it to the bug screen in front of the radiator. Haven't put it on as of yet, I think they are intrigrd with the car.

I obtained the license plate bracket when I purchased my SPF (the dealer had them in stock). I didn't install it right away------thought it detracted from the overall appearance of the car. However, after some "prodding" from the local constables, I decided to install it.
Installation did require some minor engineering. The two bumper quick jack rods need to be cut so the license plate bracket can be installed (be careful when cutting because the correct dimension is of concern). As a note, I used a fine hack saw blade and it worked perfectly-------no burrs, gouges or blemishes. The small bracket that attaches to the parking light is not necessary but is recommended. It helps keep the license plate bracket from "whipping" around, especially at higher speeds. The small bracket required some minor drilling to oversize the hoes some to allow a fit over the parking light screws (the bracket utilizes the existing screws in the parking light).
The whole installation process, from start to finish, required about an hour. It doesn't look terribly bad and it doesn't cover any of the parking light. However, I think it detracts from the overall look of the car. But, for peace of mind in keeping the local constables appeased, it's well worth it.

I installed my front plate bracket several years ago (same design as yours).
Took a little time to get everything to line up, but did not have to make any modifications. Mine has stainless hardware, so I have no corrosion from my winter driving (although I tapped a snowbank before this photo was taken :-)

Just to let you guys know, not having a front plate, is now a ticket, not a fix it ticket, same with tinted windows, and if you have a commercial drivers license you can not go to traffic school.

Jim
Go to autozone and buy a 195F thermostat, the ones for $3.95. You wont need the cardboard over your radiator anymore. The pos expensive ones (mr gasket etc) alway allow leak by even when they are closed. Go pick one up and blow through it you will be amazed. 180F is too cold also, it wont close until 170F.
I did a write up couple months ago. Another key point is if the thermostat open at 195F it wount be fully closed until 185F!! Thermostat determine minimuim operating temp not maximuim.
Keep your oil cooler blocked off.
