yup i agree. it has to have far more than 3-400 horses at the wheels.
i have a 997 gt2 and a 997 turbo with 530 and 480 DIN hp.
by the seat of the pants feel, the cobra is much faster in acelleration. for all i know driveline loss is usually around 15%......20% at the max with lots of auxilliary stuff.

Take it to the drag strip and it will make a pass equivalent to 380 wheel HP.

Dynos can be exaggerated. Trap speed is reality. There are enough 427Rs and 427IRs out there that have been to the drag strip to know the real wheel HP with Superformance headers and Superformance side pipes. The same goes for any engine in a Cobra.

Here are a few cars that I've had opportunity to see race each other as well as race along with my Cobra with Roush 427R while it was between 400 and 475 wheel HP during assorted power gain modifications. Other than these cars there were perhaps 4 times as many that gathered about the club events to compare as well. I'm reasonably certain about this.

It looks like the F430 weighs around 3,200 lbs vs. roughly 2,600 lbs for your Superformance. It's the lower weight of your car that gives you the nod (at least up to around 120 mph).

You should look into putting less restrictive exhaust/sidepipes on the car for additional gains.

I thought the 490hp of the f430 is crankshaft hp not rwhp. Don't most auto makers rate their hp at the crank? F430=490hp@3000lbs
COBRA=550hp@2600lbs
The F430 probably only makes 400 at the wheels however has traction control and paddle shifting. I am sure your car is making over 450 at the wheels because mine does and its a tweaked 427srtw. Superperformance 427IR= awesome ride brother!!!!

The F430s are about 430 corrected wheel HP and run about low 12s around 118 mph on a good day with a 1.8 or 1.9 60ft around here.

The Ferrari is a great car but the Cobra is more fun to drive.

The Ferrari and its F1 trans will make a shifting hero out of any ham fisted idiot. It has a pretty much flawless chassis and the engine makes all kinds of neat noises. It has good visibility to the front, its comfortable for long cruises, has a top a heater, A/C and probably a stereo... It is pretty darn fast by most street car standards.

The Cobra is a lot more fun to drive though. (And it is probably just as reliable and certainly cheaper to fix if it should break.)

one of my neighbors had a 360 modena for a while. Someone bumped him, don't think it was undriveable, but cost him around $15000 to get it fixed. Needless to say he sold it shortly after it was fixed.

on my 997 gt2 i have michelin pilot cup's. sick tires. take a while to develop grip but once nicely warmed up they stick like crazy and are still road legal.

That sounds fun with the 17s. You'll get more grip with the Michelins, but maybe a little wheel hop once they're hot enough to stick. A nice thing is your effective drive ratio will be a little quicker down low and have a closer feel to the shift points because the tires will be a little lower if I'm not mistaken. There's really not much for the road like the Mickey Thompson ET street drag radials though for in line hammering. The size you're getting comes in a 315/35 17 for the Mickey Thompson too.

Last Saturday I went out with a group of guys. I wish I still had my Cobra because a guy I know had his new Bugatti Veyron. Another member in the club with a 996 GT2 with a GT700 package and some other stuff giving it around 780 engine HP runs the club. I thought they might give it a go together from low speed. The GT2 is quite a bit ligther, so might be close from 0 - 100. There were the usual F430s a stock 997 GT2(put 100 octane fuel in for more power stock), Corvette ZR1 and stuff that was cool too. Typically the group goes out for drives and here and there have little rolling punches and stuff while on the drive. I've raced some of the faster guys with the Cobra I sold. With 475 Hp at the wheels I'd put about three cars on the GT2 with 780 HP between 40 and 120. The F430s are too far behind to figure distance though.

Here are a few other cool cars to check out from the drive. I know most Cobra guys aren't into this stuff, but thought I'd toss it up here. Watch for the Yellow Pantera. It's a twin turbo Clevland. Really cool car.

This is a bit out of the range of this specific thread but the last issue of Motor Trend did a comparison of the Porsche GT2, ZR1, Ferrari GTB and the GTR. Interesting read. Performance-wise the ZR1 did the best. One thing I found interesting is that when you are playing in this league, hp/wt ratio does not nearly tell the whole story.

I got into it with a 430 from about 30mph. I had 3 car lengths on him at 120 when I got out of it. Made him friggin crazy. Even crazier than his female rider who was screaming at him the whole way!

Particularly delicious was he had the Prancing Horse yellow decals near the rear view mirrors and I had my Terlingua Racing Team Angry Rabbit decals in the same place!
