Question Superformance Blinker question.

I have just finished the engine and trans installation on SPO2551 but the blinkers do not work. I tested the fuses, changed the flasher, and checked the 5 wire plug from the switch. Every thing look ok but the blinkers will not even light up. Any suggestions. Lyle

I do not know the answer, or have a good suggestion other than to post on SCOF and ask.

Someone there will know.

The first thing to do is test that you have power at the flasher unit. The power goes through it into the signal unit and then to the lights. You may have a poor connector on one of the wires.

Do you have power (with the car on) to the green/white wire to the flasher unit?

You have power to the blinker but no power
to the tail light and I assume you have the same condition
going to the front turn signal...Is there a center conductor
in the wire ??? If not that is your problem or you have an open somewhere. How about running a jumper wire from
the blinker to one of the lights and see if it works. I don't have my SPF wiring diagram since I gave it to my roofer.
As was mentioned, join SCOF as those guys are still fun, well okay some still are,and can solve problems even though I am no longer a member.

IF you have power to the flasher, and thru the flasher, and on to the stalk, (green/white) then next place to look is the stalk on the steering column. I'll assume you have hi and low beams that work on the stalk... You will find a green/yellow and a green/black on the plug from the "CAR SIDE" of the plug that connects to the stalk, they are the power to all the indicator bulbs. Note: The color of the wiring on the stalk side varies by stalk manufacturer...
Run a "FUSED" - !!! FUSED !!! - power jumper to one and then the other g/y & g/b wires on the "car plug" side... this will confirem if the wiring to the front and back sockets is ok, the indicator lights should power up (but not blink) when you jumper them. If that works it's the stalk. Contact me by email and I'll give you a source for a replacement stalk at a resonable price.

sometimes the register is'nt catching in the column. the turnsignal mechinism is a VW part. pull the wheel and check inside for proper movement. have found this on cars (spf) right off the boat. know an installer, and i am an installer and have encountered this.

I strongly suspect the wires going from your turnsignal mechanism on the steering column are being pinched where they routed the wires through he dash. In turn they have grounded each other in the "harness". Grab and see if the wirels slide freely where they go through the dash, if not I suspect that is the problem.

I also see you just got the engine and trans installed.
1) Grease all ball joints / u joints.
2) Regardless of the paint on the bolts tighten each and every bolt and again at 500 miles, if they are loose at 500 miles it means they did not put loctite on the loose ones so remove and apply loctite reinstall and check in 500 miles.
3)lube your rear anti-sway bar bushings or it will give the impression the car is bottoming out.
PM me with any questions/problems., I have no doubt I have seen it and can give you the correct answer in minuts.

Well everything checks ok but the stalk. The wires on the stalk side look good, it must be inside the Stalk. Thanks again for all the tips.

Not much inside the stalk, but when you remove I bet you find the wires pinched somewhere. If it were in the stalk, one of the blinkers would probably work.

So did you replace the front signal bulbs with LEDs?

Leds freak out the flashers on the four corners and the blinkers wont work.

Bulbs to LED's ???
Now thats a different issue...
The stock flasher unit is a thermal switch...
LED's don't pull enough current to trigger the thermal switch...
You need to swap-out the flasher unit to a LED compatible design or add resistors in the back of the car on the indicator wiring...
Maybe I should make up a detail with part numbers and add this to the wiring diagrams?
