Default Throttle linkage

Hi all, was taking some parts off to send out for chrome, and wanted to take off the throttle linkage that is attatched to the fire wall, i already remove the other 2 arms but am having no luck on the one on the fire wall, is there some special way to remove it? i figured all i had to do was remove that small c clips at the one end and that it should slide out, but no luck, anyone know how to do remove it?

If you look under the dash where the steering column exits through the firewall, at about the 10 o’clock position, you will see the head of a bolt, that's for the linkage bracket towards the drivers side...the other bolt...well lets just say, you got to really love chrome to get to that one...Just follow that same structural member towards the passenger side, first you'll see the two nuts and washers that hold on the clutch reservoir, keep looking to the right, the other bolt is there too...I think you'll need to remove the steering wheel to get into a position to reach that second nut...Maybe even need to remove the seat...unless you can bend like a pretzel. Knowing a "Little Person" from the Wizard of Oz would also be a solution...Good Luck.

Blas,

You're a diplomat. No judgment regarding the lengths one will go to chrome a part.

Like Dragnet....just the facts Blas, just the facts.

The heim joint eyelets on mine (2734) were made of a zincish metal that may not hold a chrome treatment that well.

You may want to spec a replacement heim joint / eyelet that is already shiny/chrome/polished.

this also may save you a $ or 2.

I thought you were planning to replace the Heim Joint pieces. I'm not sure how you would chrome that assembly and still keep it fuctional. I know chroming prices have gone sky high too. And you are correct in saying that it's probably cheaper to replace it. Someone here has already done this on CC, maybe search and find that person, and you have your source for parts. I'll look tonight to find him.

Thinking Back now, I believe they replaced the throttle linkage pieces with polished SS pieces not chromed original pieces.

The pictures Blas has are from my car SPF#1004. I replaced every piece of linkage from the pedal to the carburetor with stainless steel. Everything came from www.mcmaster.com (Mcmaster-Carr)... stainless rod, flat bar to make the bell cranks, and the heim joints (Ball Joint Rod Ends on Page 1168), for the rod ends and to replace the two on the firewall holding the transverse rod in place. I had to have someone else TIG the bell cranks to the rods but otherwise all hand made and polished. I'll try to post pictures. I planned to start making them for other owners next winter but I had to delay my retirement for a year.

A couple pics of the linkage along with the stainless hood stops on the firewall, hood prop rod and bracket, even the clip that holds the prop rod in place (from stainless tubing). Now I'm in the middle of making new hood latches from stainless. Get the idea I hate cadmium plated parts?
