Any idea what this is and where it goes?

I was driving my SPF 2708 minding my own business and entered a driveway which caused a small bump. I then heard a rattling noise coming from under the hood. I stopped the engine and opened the hood and found this plastic (trim?) piece laying in the engine compartment as shown. It was up against the alternator which grinded against it putting the gouge in it as shown in the lower pictures. Any idea what the heck it is and where it goes? I hope it's not a big deal.

that piece is located above the radiator. helps seal off the front of radiator. looking from the front of the car, look above the radiator. fits between the body and the top of the radiator

Hi Sandy - that indeed is the piece that seals airflow above the radiator. I dont think its a critical piece to reinstall...but I did epoxy mine back in. Hasnt moved since.

Yup, that was it. Thanks, I don't know how long it would have taken me to figure that out. I J-B Welded it in place now so should stay put. Thanks again.

hey sandy
check your front caliper bracket bolts. spf had a run of cars that had loose bolts on the brakes at about your number.

Just to be on the safe side......are you SURE that's not a.... Plutonium U-235 Hyper Space Modulator? You know, if people guess the right answer too quick it deprives those of us with too much time on our hands of exercising our brains!

Sandy C. That's no fair. I thought is was a bug shield??

It could also be a deflector for under the car??

I know, it's like when you used to put baseball cards on the bike wheels to hear more noise!!!

Sorry just playing around at 4:30am Looks like an easy fix Sandy. Glue or epoxy would work the best to hold it in location. Rick L.

nahhh-- Plutonium U-235 HSM's were aluminum--- not ABS.

It may be a Air-Brake from a Timex Sinclair 1000.

On jeffs commentary on the bolts, every single fastener on the car needs to be checked and verified on setup and on a PM basis.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll check 'em out ASAP. Daytime driving season is just about over here for awhile (103 degrees today in Phoenix, dang) so one of these mornings I'm gonna take off the wheels, which I have never done by the way, just to see how to do it and I'll check them then.
