Default SPF Hard Top

looking at buying a hard top for my spf, few questions to those who have one,

1. did the car come with some sort of protective film that sticks to the body to protect the paint from the bottom edge of the hard top? if so could i order it from a dealer? a spf part #?

2. is there any mods needed to have the top fit? any extra fittings / holes to secure the back section of the top down to the body?

any info on this would be great.

Default I have had a Hard Top since 2003

I have had a Hard Top on my car-SPF #586 since 2002 so maybe I can help a bit.
I bought my car from Doug Reed as a special order car & picked it up in Chalmette, Louisiana in October, 1999. I had Doug order my top in 2003 & took the car back down to him to have the top fitted. He did install some clear film where the top rides and also did the finish painting of the stripes from the bottom of the rear window.
He also notched the top of the wind wings to clear the top and moved the locking hooks that the soft top secures to down to fit the soft top.
The top bolts through the two holes behind the door latches where the main soft top support fits.
I ran the top on my car from the time my son & I picked it up in 2003, and just took it off on my son's birthday on May 17th 2009, so I have had it off now for almost three months now. I will be putting it back on the car before long because I like it!
Talk to your dealer for any other help and good luck. You can see what my car looks like in my pictures.
What is your car #?
Good Luck,
John Russell

I have a top that I got from Superformance. Get it from them and you won't have any problems. Mine is not on that much but goes on in about 15 minutes. Secures solid and with no issues. There are some pictures are in my gallery.I don't have any clear tape. but again being in Arizona it;'s not on much. Get 3M stuff if your going to use it. Do it right the first time if you plan to have it on a lot. I have no scratches without it.

Good Luck,

thanks for your input..
my car # is 2162, i as you, love the look of the top on the car, im not looking to buy it for wet weather driving, but for the looks. its like have 15" and 17" wheels, it gives you 2 diffrent looks and it only takes about 45 min to switch them out, same with the hard top, 2 diffrent looks and easy to do, and plus i love the look of it.

ok another question...

did superformance make diffrent fitting tops for diffrent yrs of car,
did the body style in the rear change at all over the yrs?

i have the top and with it sitting on the car it seems like it does not sit snug to the the body were the fender starts to blend in to the trunk lid, but its sits good along the middle of the back, mind you i do not have the mounting bolts that hold the back half of the top to the body. is there some trick to getting this thing to fit, what procedure do you use to fastening the top down.. do you latch the front down first or the rear first. i will have to order the 2 latch bolts that hold down the rear of the top to the body.
