Securing Brake/Air Vent Screens

I am in the process of installing the Brake/Air Vent screens on the front of my midstates and was wondering if anyone has come up with a nice way to secure them in place. I am not a fan of using silicone and I don't think that the fiberglass is thick enough for the rivet's without poking through?

Hi Mike.
A two part epoxy will work well if they are a tight fit. Rivets do work well providing that you use a like metal washer on the backside of the mesh, to prevent the rivet from pulling through. As long as the body is atleast 3/32
thick, you should be safe. If the body is real thin, you can use a washer on
the backside of the body as well.

Use the plastic rivets that have the washers built in. I don't like the use of epoxy. If you need to take them off, you'll have one hell of a time.

Actually, the use of 100% silicone is a good idea and it's easy to remove.

I used a product from Sellys called Sikaflex (not sure if you can buy it in USA) - works a treat. Is viscous enough when wet to hold them in place till it dries. Pretty easy to take them off later on if you need to and just scrape the inside residue off with a blade. Saves drilling and riveting in a confined space.

So whats your problem with silicone??? Huh???

Eh eh, just kidding. I LIKE silicone for this application I've got my screen's fixed that way. Been like that for years, no problem AND if I ever want to remove it, piece of cake. Don't be silly, be silicone and be done.

I used urethane adhesive. Similar to silicone, but a little stronger. You can get them off, but it takes a lot to remove them. No holes here.

Thanks to all for responding. I weighed the options and ended up going with.............................................. .................................................. ...............Silicone. Not enough room for the drill and the paranoia of punching all the way through finally made the final decision.
