To complete the racer look, it needs black pipes and a black rollbar, but I really find the combo striking as is... Very nice, Jay, and glad I was able to provide a little inspiration as others have inspired me.

Lights just look great, good job Allen!

...not only for the white tails - also a needed "pothole detector" - especially with a stiff suspension.

The look of your FIA with the lights, hardtop, windows and the "used" look with the dirt on the tires and sprayed on the rear fenders is killer. Wonderful.

My 427 has Lucas lights, but they are inset in the "mouth". Different look...

Good job for sure. I guess with those lights you're going with a retro look? I realize we have retro cars, but With today's technology, you can get more light with a quarter of the size with LED lights.

You got it, Tim, and thanks. I'm following what the "Master's" guys are doing in Europe. (as seen at the top of this thread). Never got to wiring them up, though. That task is on my "to-do" list for the coming Winter months.

Yes..being that you are from Valley Forge, I'm sure you (and your landscaping) know all about the furry beasts! When I used to live in Pottstown, I would drive through the park in the very early AM hours on my way from Rt23 to the Philly Airport, and the "beasts" were very comfortable just standing in droves beside the roads, grazing. Kind of works to de-sensitize you to them.

LOL on the Beasties in the park. It is like playing "Russian Roulette" driving around Valley Forge and the surrounding areas. That is why I only wear a lap belt in my area. So I Can Duck, just in case. lol. A Cobra windshield is not gonna help much stopping a deer! Let's face it, the odds of hitting a deer are far greater than being in an accident......I think.
I have hit a couple deer with a car and a truck. Deer wins.

Come to think of it, I have already hit a variety of smaller beasts and a big bird and a "Road Gator" (piece of tire) flew off a truck and hit me. Boy, glad I Ducked for That!
Thankfully I bought a fiberglass car, 'cause if it was aluminum it would be totalled already.
I was at a little car show one time. My car was filthy from driving back from Watkins Glen. There were some entrails down one side of the car from some kind of beast. When I came back to my car there were a bunch of guys standing around the car checking it out. They were commenting how dirty it was. They did not know it was mine, so I said that Cobras look even Meaner with some dirt on them! The guys responded, Yes, you are right

Then I jumped in the car and drove away LOL

I just came across this thread. I'm doing this same concept for my FIA. The little lights on the bottom are NOT period correct? I've not seen a vintage photo with those lights, but wanted to make sure (they are very trick though).

Hey, Ron...

You mean the little auxillary spots below the cibies in this photo:

I believe those are additional lights added for greater visibility/spread. Even these Cibies aren't necessarily "period". I believe an old Lucas lamp would be more period like on this car:

My goal here was to capture the essence of the look the European Masters Cobra guys are running - more of a functional, modern day approach rather than period.

This mounting of the driving lights is what I had in mind for my black ERA 289FIA. I just ordered some PIAA 40 round lights and they should arrive this week---which means I'll have them installed and operational by about, eh, June...

So here is the final version. I've wired it up and it works (miracle given my electrical skills), but have to mount the switch.

A bit farther from the body because of the length of the jack extensions (I may fix that in the one run).

Great work, Ron! Innovative bracket design, too. It's great when you flip the switch and find that you don't have to troubleshoot anything..

As part of my "Winter" modifications, I'm just now getting my Cibies wired up. I purchased a fan relay harness through Speedway Motors to supply the power to my lights. The harness included a mess of wire, a circuit braker, a solenoid, and a few connectors. I ended up having to add some wire based on where I put my solenoid, but think the kit should work a treat. (cost effective, too, relative to piecing stuff together)
