Rear End Question

I am looking for a rear end for my Street Beast kit and my understanding is that a fox body will be a direct bolt in. The question is, will a 1990 Lincoln LSC 5.0 also be a direct bolt in?

Isn't the Lincoln an IRS rear end? I know my brothers Lincoln was but I don't remember what year it was.

I believe the Lincoln rear end is longer than the Fox body mustang rears. Best to look for a Fox body rear, there are tons of them in junk yards that just need to be cleaned up and sometimes you can find them on craigslist. If you want five lug axles, there are several ways to accomplish it- either aftermarket axles from a vendor or get a 94/95 rear end which came with 5 lug axles, I believe. The 87-93 Fox body mustangs were 4 lug axles.

I have a 89 lincoln rear end in my B+B. Can't use deep dish wheels because it is wider than the mustang rear end. Jim

You wouldn't want one from a 94 and newer. When they went to 5 lug, they put an anti-lock brake ring on the axle. This added 3/4" to each side.

Find a 93 or older and buy new axles. The Ranger 5 lug axles will fit right in and they are cheap.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I already have a fox body 4 lug set up that is bolted onto the frame right now.

I see on Currey that I can buy the axles for around $300, can I use disc brakes off later (94 - or later) model mustangs to do the disc swap?

Yes, but you would need new caliper adapters. Go here and check out what he has as far as packages.

North Racecars Brake Solutions

The calipers interchange for all rotor sizes, so you might want to go with a larger rotor diameter. I had the 11.65" rear rotors. Note that the hub diameter on the disk brake axles is larger than the drum brake axles. So to really make this correct, you would need the caliper brackets for a disk brake rear, and Fox axles with the SN95 hub and 5 lug. This would allow the rear rotors to fit without the need for a sleeve over the center hub.

When I built my CMC, I had the rear axle narrowed. It can be shortened about 2.25" per side and retain the factory lower control arm mounting. I used Curry axles that were 2.25" shorter than Fox length with the SN95 5 lug and center hub. I used Forte adapters with a 11.65" diameter rotor.

Don't forget...if you go with rear disk, you would also need the master cylinder for that set-up.

I am guessing that my best bet would be to buy the entire kit from North Racecars and that way it will all work well together.
