sidepipes are usually brand specific.

I just had my SPF at the smog referee here in San Pablo Calif. yesterday to finish up with my registration for smog exemption. They have to put the sniffers up the pipes and fire up the car to make a record for certification of exemption. Anyway, during the 2500 rpm cycle, the tech. put a decibel meter at 24 inches from the sidepipe exit and got a 107 db reading. He said in Calif. 95 db is the maximum level allowed by law. Hell, no wonder my ears have a dull ring to them after an hour in the saddle. We're going up the coast next month to Mendocino, weather permitting, and will be sporting ear plugs and discrete ear mufflers.

Wink

Has anyone used one of these on their Superformance with sidepipes? I'm predicting a fix it ticket from the local authorities and this looks like the "Free Pass" I was looking for.

Any experiances and/or stories would be appreciated.

Ed.

Talking Mufflers

I had my Cobra's pipes made with Lobak sprint car mufflers.
They have approximately a 4.5" body with 3.5" inlet/outlet, and use a straight thru center tube with spiral augers around the outside. There's no packing material whatsoever, so they stay consistant over time.

With the 12.5:1 427, it's fairly loud, but has a very crisp, pleasing sound.
I just use common sense and ease up on the throttle when passing a cop.
The only attention I've ever attracted from police was to look at and talk about the car.

I run an open header with a turndown on the race car and always use earplugs. It would be downright painful without them.

Later,
