Default Hi-Tech Cobra,,,45K to much?

Just keeping up with the market and prices.

A Hi-Tech is "on the market" here in Hawaii. Sounds like a nice 427SO with a conservative build at 425 horse. I understand the "early" Hi-Techs had some body\mold problems? Last one was built in 1994, so what years had the body problem? What you guys know about the cars in general? Is 45K a good "ball park" price? At $45K for a used Cobra, the competition for your Cobra $$ gets intense!

Default Not bad...

Ernie...
Hi-Tech was known for their very-correct bodies and pretty good under-the-skin engineering.
45k for a clean one with a S/O with no warts...is a pretty good asking price, in this market. (..emphasis on asking).

Compare- there is a rolling Hi-tech chassis, quite complete, no engine for 28k on Cobracountry.

They have usually rivaled ERA for holding good resale.

ditto for one w/ s.o. I think that a very fair starting point. be sure to go over it with a fine tooth comb.

The early Hi Techs were built by Tom DiAntonio, and were nicely done. Although the bodies were lacking in some key details, they were probably one of the most accurate replicas available at the time. However, the two or three that I have seen exhibited some "print through" on the glass - particularly the hood.

After Tom sold the company, a new mold was splashed from an original that was in for restoration, and the result was one of the finest, most accurate bodies available. It was a shame the company went out of business, because, in my opinion, they were producing a car that rivaled a CSX 4000 series glass car at about half the price.

If the car is one of the later examples, I believe $45K with a sideoiler is a pretty good deal.

Hey Bud Man,

Would you know how many Hi-Techs were made and if so do you know roughly where the serial number would be?

Thank you
Jim

Jim, the seriel # would be on the passenger side, top of shock tower mount or passenger side frame rail at the back of rail under car. If originality is important, the hi-techs are as correct as csx's, or kirkahms. At 45k, its not a bad price. Scott

There is a Hi-Tech in Hawaii that has the Mustang II front suspension and a live axle in the rear. If this is that car, that explains the $45k price. Still not a bad price.

I'm going over this afternoon to check out the car, take some pics etc. A good bit of history there sounds like. Will let you guys know what I find out. I'm surprised a Hi-Tech would come equipped with the Stang parts as you described. The Hi-Techs sound to "high caliber" to have such things on it.

Excal,
I had a 1997 Hi-Tech 427SC. What a great car. Now Dave V owns and operates this snake at speed. He has not had any problems. The chassis number is HTM65CO131. I built the car so I know it inside and out. I am now finishing a CSX and can say they are very very close. Look for the fully indep. 9". The Hi-Tech is a great car.

SFRY,,,,I thought they quit making Hi-Tech in '94? I'm just curious about the model more than anything else. I like to keep up with the market, what used to be, what is, how it was built. You know, all that stuff.

Shannon, my hi-tech is htmc0147. I was one of, maybe even the last hi-tech in the spring of 1999. So what is the difference between the hi-tech and the kirkam? Are you going to use the hi-tech 9 inch center in the kirkam(stronger)? Scott

Excal- I believe that the last Hi-Tech rolled out in 1999. I know buyers that placed orders in July 99 and never got any product. It too bad because it is a awsome car. Check out my gallery.#96 is the Hi-Tech. The black one is the Shelby CSX4264 that I am finishing. I took this pic on Sat. due to I had the 96 back for some repairs (racing stuff).

Coyled- My Shelby has the DANA as equipped by them. I did like the 9" though. I have looked at the Shelby,Hi-Tech and Kirkham side by side. The only difference I can see is the welded door stop on the Kirkham frame.Hi-Tech also utilized the 9" versus DANA ect. I will say that all three are very close. Only trained pros can really tell the difference.

Default Hi-Tech 427

The 1994 Hi-Tech 427 car is "ageing" gracefully. Looks like a "daily driver", some wear and tear, some oil\grease underneath, not perfect under hood but clean. Looks a lot like an un-restored original Cobra S/C might.

I saw a kirkam in a shop in phoenix a few days ago. I can't tell the difference between the kirkam, hi-tech, and the csx. scott
