Default Dunlop v. Eagle GT II- Which is better?

Alright, I know there have been many discussions about the availability of 15" tires, but I have a question. Which tires do you think are better- Dunlop GT Qualifiers of Eagle GT IIs- and why? (I have owned BFG Radial TAs and am looking to try something different). If you've tried both I'd love to hear a comparison. If you swear by one or the other, I'd love to hear that too.

In my opinion, the Dunlops seem stickier, but the word "Goodyear" seems to look better on a Cobra. Too bad they don't make the Goodyear Bluestreaks DOT certified

I'm very happy with my Dunlops. I don't have experience to compare to the GoodYears, however.

Had them both. Dunlops are somewhat stickier, and have a more progressive breakaway. When your trying to go fast on 15's, who cares about the name.

Suggestion. Go to each manufacturers website and look up the specs on traction rating. AA, A, or B. Then pose the same question to each's Tech Support. Offer to send them a photo of your car with their tire on it. Wanna get really daring? Offer them a photo shoot of the car for a set of free, or dealer cost tires. You might be surprised.

I'll bet they're both better than the BFGs (which I have). I recently had 5 Radial T/As checked for roundness and 2 of them were 30 pounds out of round. The tech guy thought they should be replaced. I leaning toward Dunlop.

Chaplin Hi Mike Go with the dunlops 295 in the back 245 in the front. Letters go to the inside. they are a softer and better tire. I have that both on my 79 TA and the eagles came with the car, put BFG's on, the car was allover in the rain. Went to the GT Qualifiers and I still have them on the car with 58,000 miles and still have penty of meat still on them. The car handled so much better with these tires. Rick Lake

Hey Mike,

as another option, a friend of mine tried some Yokaham Avid STs in this size recently, and they worked very well on dry surface in comparison to the BFG. They were very inexpensive from Summit or Tire Rack (like $47/$52 each or so!). They have a different looking side wall design, but are another option to the BFG or Dunlop - as an FYI. I went with the big letter Goodyear tires this time. They work well, but pick up a lot of rocks, and make paint chips fast... Good luck.

Chaplin,

I can't give you a comparison, but I have been real happy with my Dunlops.

3,000 not so pampered miles and they look and perform like the first day. Easily balanced with little weight required.

Nice tread pattern and excellent adhesion despite the fact they are on my over powered man go-cart!

I ran my white letters "in" but both would look good "out".

Default Yet another option

I have Cooper Cobra radials and they have now had 5 hard track days. Even my instructors were surprised at their grip for a street tire. Very smooth break away and consistent lap to lap. I run 30psi on the track and 22fr. 24r. on the street.

Default Large Lettered Goodyears

Duane, the Goodyears (large lettered) look great on that car of yours. My GY GT II's are now worn out (rears - 5,200 miles).
Question: Were'd you order the tires - are they treaded, and what size and compound are they.

you can get the big letter Eagles from Shelby who is the exclusive distributor for these tires, or any of the dealers like Roger Krause.

Feedback:
If you drive on the street, and you love your paint job or your friends don't want chips from following behind you, don't buy these tires! They are not DOT tires. I've only had my car out for 300 miles now, and I have 30 or more chips on my rear fenders already. If you hit any kid of a road with pebbles or rocks, your front tires will pick them up and sandblast your rear fenders. The inside of my wheel wells feel it too. I HAD a very nice paint job. I will keep the tires, and just forgo the looks department a bit I guess.

Oh well, I'd rather drive it and enjoy it than trying to maintain a trailer queen car.

Decooney Duane look for clear shield that goes on your rear fenders. It comes in sheet form. Put three to four layers on. It is the same that Nascar uses on their windshields. Undercoat the fenders with 3 to 4 coats to protect the inner fenders and from rocks hitting inside. This will stop the bullet hole in the paint from under side hits. Rick Lake

great suggestion... Thanks! I had not considered layers, but it really makes sense. I'll be trying that for sure. I really want to keep these tires on the car if I can figure out how to save the body a bit. This helps.
