Default superformance bad fuel pump questions

I think I've diagnosed my problem, the carb isn't getting any fuel. It ran for a few minutes and then I thought it was flooded but after trial and error, it would only run if I was dripping fuel into the carburetor. I then noticed that when I turned the ignition key, I didn't hear the hum of the fuel pump that can usually be heard when you turn the ignition. I need help in determining that I have the right diagnosis, and then I need help finding the pump? is it by the tank and what needs to come off before I can spot it and remove it to replace it. Thanks!

Frank, Not sure if yours is like mine...but on my #1429, I use an electric fuel pump which is mounted just inside the main frame rail next to the rear-end/ differential housing. Mine is rigidly bolted to the frame and I can hear it run until I fire the motor. It is very accessable. Just pinch of the fuel lines, un plug it and remove it.

Not sure if this is your first time running the car...? Maybe the fuel pump switch is turned off. It is located on the dash in between the speedo and tach. Down is "on" and "up" is off on my car. I'm not being sarcastic...I just don't know if you know...sorry.

I feel pretty stupid.... your reply saved me countless hours of frustration! I cleaned the dash board earlier and I flipped the pump switch without realizing that there was a switch that controlled the fuel pump. I turned the switch back on and the fuel system pressurized immediately and I was able to enjoy a sunday drive without incident. This site is awesome and I am grateful for your reply.

Frankym....sounds awfully close to something I would do - and overlook it. Last weekend I wired my electric fan circuit to my fuel pump switch so I could operate the fans manually in case the relay(s) stop working. Now the fuel pump is on/off with the ignition switch. It worked out well for #1735 SPF.

On my SPF, my fuel gauge electrical is also wired to my electric fuel pump switch. So, my gauge shows E when the switch is off.

I added a second switch to over-ride the fans (aka: operate them manually).

I like the electric fuel pump switch, as it adds one more obsticle that a would-be theif would find difficulty if trying to perform a "drive-away" theft. I always turn it off then I turn off the ignition.
