Repolishing SS sidepipes

Is this possible? Mine never were too good to begin with compared to others I've seen. Is this something I should leave to a professional or attempt myself? How is it done anyway? I've read stories about the Kirkham owners who polished their cars to a mirror finish which required lots and lots of hours and elbow grease. Where would one go to get them polished?
