There is a Texas part of this forum where the Dallas guys post. You can find out what they are doing there. Very active bunch of guys & gals.
Plan on being with us for the Texas Cobra meet the last weekend of March in San Marcos. Big 4 day Cobra event in the best cruising area of the state.

Default Welcome hartprods!

You have landed in the correct Texas Forum to communicate with the DFW Cobra Club! Read some of the posts here, most of them will be from the DFW group. Watch this space for details of upcoming cruises and monthly meetings. I see that there is a cruise on Oct 24th and the Nov 7th monthly meeting is beginning to be discussed.

We meet for lunch every first Saturday, no matter what. Details will get worked out here a few days ahead of time .. do join us! No dues, no rules, no officers, no formality .. just people meeting to enjoy cars and company.

Sam

Sheared the pin off................impressive. But ya gotta do better than that!

Looking forward to meeting you. Just note that everyone is welcome to these outings. Spouses, kids, relatives, friends and pets. You gotta see Miles strap his two dogs into the passenger seat. Now THAT'S impressive! Fred, the Golden Retriever, can pick up any chick.........

Speaking of Miles, please call me sometime.

SH (a.k.a. hartprods),

Ahhhh, I knew you could do better than a buster pin. That's giving it the ol' college try.

If you pull the motor, it sounds like a T.I.T. job. But like rustyBob say's, run all the traps first before you yank the engine out. Then if no luck, you can get about 5-10 guys over who have worked on everything imaginable. We also have all the tools you could possibly need. But BEER is the key word.................

I am also another east sider but I don't have a Cobra yet. I live in Lavon and would be willing to come out and help if you need it. I am still continuing to live vicariously through others and get rides whenever I can.

Just so you know, this T.I.T. stands for Texas Installation Team.
No, we don't work with silicone.
A rag-tag group of mutants who between them have JUST enough info and know-how to PROBABLY get it back together without many leftover parts.
Give us a try! Many have and most of those folks' cars have NOT caught on fire!

I bet/hope it is the distributor pin. That is an easy fix. Texas Installation Team! Excellent.
For whatever reason Ford pins are smaller diameter than the Chebbies.

That is because size isn't everything. It is how you work the pin that matters.

hartprods,
I had a 460 in a 79 F150 years ago and I had the same issues. Would not crank hot. High torque or regular started did not matter. A new starter would work well for a while, but did not take long for it to act up again. I tried heat wrap on the starter and header but what I found to work the best was to make a double aluminum shield to fit between the header and starter. Meaning that there were 2 shields with a air gap between them. I also installed small 12 volt fan to blow air across the shield and starter. Was not the prettiest setup, but it helped a lot. I still had a few issues with it, but not every time. Hopefully someone else can weigh in and have a better solution. I had other issues with that 460 and ended up seizing it up before I found a better solution.
