Thumbs up New member chiming in!

Well, Greg said it was this easy:

"HI Doug,

Joining a club with no rules and no dues is pretty simple. Just chime in on the clubcobra chats and enjoy the ride."

So, I thought I'd introduce myself and say "Howdy".

I'm 60 years old/young and retired after a 32 year career in public education. I've been following the component car industry for longer than I've worked, though.....from the Kelmarks and Arntz Cobras of the late 60's/early 70's through the recent resurection of my "dream Cobra", the Hurricane.

I purchased a Cobra replica this past spring, drove it for 3 weeks and then had to garage it so that I could go out of state to work on a long term home renovation project. I bought it right here, off a classified ad on Club Cobra, here's the link to the ad and you can read all about it:

http://www.clubcobra.com/classifieds...uct=1726&cat=2

It's still garaged, even though I'm back in TX now. A few minor project tasks on it will make it roadworthy again (not that it isn't, but we all know how that "upgrade" mania goes). It'll be on the road again long before the spring meet at San Marcos (I was there last year, just didn't have the Cobra yet) so I hope to meet many more of you there this year.

Fortunately, the Cobra is soundly built, and I believe it to have started its life as a quarter-mile drag racer. There are things about it that make me believe that, such as the name of the company that built the frame, the parallel 4-bar rear suspension, the Ford 9" posi unit with 3.70 ratio, the plethora of Mallory parts on it (fuel pump, fuel filter, Unilite distributor/coil/ignition system), the aluminum fuel cell with foam inside, etc. I do know that it hooks up VERY well, no drama like wheel hop or swapping ends, just goes fast and straight. The drivetrain is reported to be from an '89 Ford Mustang GT (converted to carb) and seems to be very stout. I'll get a valve cover off soon enough and see it it has any go-fast goodies under there.

So, I'll be watching the forum from now on, hope to join in now and then.

Cheers from YerDugliness!!

Bill, I think Doug says he is "dreaming of owning a Hurricane" but his current car is not a Hurricane if I recall correctly from an email exchange we had a while back. Either way, Doug you should come join us when you can, the HCC is a great bunch of guys/gals/cars.

Jim
I was fortunate enough to be able to take my Cobra to one of the HCC meetings, the one in May or June in Katy. Right after that meet, I departed and just this past week made my way back.

I'll go to the Yahoo website and join......had intended to do so before I left but lost the little strip of paper on which I wrote the web address.

You are correct, sadly, my Cobra is not a Hurricane. The Hurricane is being resurected by a company that makes, of all things, "garbage trucks" for lack of a better term, among other things. Those on the Hurricane forums feel this will be a good development as the company has already made numerous improvements to the product as well as the process.

Due to a previous engagement I won't be able to make the SA event; however, I'll do what I can to make the next one.

Speaking of that event in Katy, there was a stunning example of an RCR GT40 there that day. Does anyone know how to contact the owner? I have a contact in SA that would really like to inspect a completed RCR GT40 and would really like to be able to get the two of them together.

TIA for whatever help you can provide!

Dugly

Big Howdy Doug,

I remember you from the Hurricane Forums, and believe we met in San Marcos.

I hope things slow down for you soon and you get some seat time soon. We are socked in up in Dallas currently, but Saturday's planned cruise will have us starting out crystal clear, dry, and a brisk 27 degrees. The 427 S/C has a built in heater though.

Looking forward to seeing you again in San Marcos.

Thanks, Bill....I tried, got a notice from Yahoo that due to being unused my account had been suspended. They are trying to get it reactivated but say it might take as long as 24 hours. You should be getting an application from me soon.

Yep, Jim is right, I'm not a Hurricane owner yet, but it's only a matter of time . All this changing of hands for the company has been a bit of a delay...I had already seen a 289 model development mule at the Lee's Summit location and Mike A. and I had a gentleman's agreement that I could have first shot at the first 289 offered to the public. We all know what happened before they could get it developed. I contacted the two subsequent individuals who had purchased the company and asked if they would offer a 289 model and both said they were interested. I'm almost afraid to contact the new owners, seems I have this uncanny ability to jinx things with my requests !!!

I'm looking forward to getting better acquainted with y'all in the HCC!

Cheers from YerDugliness!!

John Shelton, I heard you were trying to get Hurricane to start offering garbage truck kits, is that true?

Default I told you

Doug,

I told you it was easy. I see the Houston guys hooking you up. The Operation Comfort event is a great event. It should be a great time and helping fellow soldiers is a great cause.
