Automotive Fasteners in Dallas

I'm currently dismantling a 2003 Mustang Cobra to use in a FFR. I over torqued a bolt holding on a bracket which supports a power steering line and some wiring. Weird little bolt with threads coming out of either side. No idea what it's called.

Took the broken bolt to the Parts Department and Prestige Ford. They couldn't find it in their computer so it doesn't exist in their world. Weren't willing or able to help me any further. I guess had I brought my car in with this part broken they would have given it back and told me they couldn't fix it.

Been on McMaster-Carr and looked through every screw and bolt they have. Nothing. Doesn't help that I don't know what it's called.

So I'm stumped. Where do I go from here? Anyone know a fastener store or someone I could take this to and get some direction?

Unless the hex part in the middle is really thin, a piece of all-thread and a nut would replicate it.
Failing that, try a wrecking yard.

Maybe a stud? Machine shops use assorted sizes and strong. If you know what the diameter and thread pitch is, try MSC. All thread can be soft Home Depot carries some stainless all thread.

Couple of thoughts. Google Mustang Fasteners. There is a company that specializes in them. CRS has set in and I am unable to remember the name. Catalog went with the last mustang I sold. The area Mustang Club could also assist. In Fort Worth there is a company that has been around forever called Mr. G's fasteners. mrgs@earthlink.net. Mr. G's has a wide selection of Grommets also which I have used on several Cobra projects. That should get you going. Colin

Why does it matter if it's the same kind of bolt/stud? Can you not just use a bolt the proper length and thread? I mean it doesn't sound like it's a critical piece or anything.

You're right. It's not slowing me down so I thought I'd take the time to look for an exact replacement. I didn't think it's be tougher then a drive to a Ford dealership.

Mr.G's seems looks like a great place to know about. Thanks for that info.

That was all a single cast piece in the forground, the threaded rod with the hex nut and flange. Anyone know a name for that? I am stumped.

Call Dallas Mustang 214-349-0991 and discuss the item with them. They will get you headed in the right direction. I do not have a clue what the name is. Guess start with thingy! As the other fellows stated a stud with spacer would do the same thing. I am not sure of your location, however, if in the Dallas or Plano area, Elliotts Hardware would have the supplies. The cool thing is once ya get into the groove of the build this will be a thing of the past. A good hardware store like Elliotts and Turners will have you replacing stock fasteners from Ford with little effort. Unless you are using a power rack, and PS pump the part is useless. All for now. You could also ask here www.dfwstangs.net/forum. There are a bunch of idiot kids on there, but in the Garage there is a lot of Mustang knowledge including a few local Pro5.0 NMRA race drivers and mechanics. HPP in Lewisville, Gearheads in Arlington are also local Mustang speed shops that may be able to help as well.

Is this the bolt you're looking for?

It appears to be metric and between a 10/32 and 1/4-20 (sorry....I can't find my thread pitch gauge)

Try Turner hardware in Farmers Branch on Josey or Elliots Hardware in Dallas. Both outstanding hardware sources (Turner has never let me down!). Turner carries all kinds of 2 sided studs in both SAE and metric.
