San Marcos 2010
Last Saturday (cold but fun meet!)we were discussing travel plans for San Marcos. Gary suggest leaving (North Dallas) around 5:00AM so we won't be rushed and to arrive in in SM early enough to get a good parking place. Cort and others suggested Hwy. 287 vs. I-35 to avoid the trucks, trash and rocks. I'm very much in favor of both ideas. We could pick a point a little south of here to meet for breakfast and finish the run down together.
Your thoughts?

I would recommend the Koffe Kup in Hico right on 281. It's a little over 2 hours from Dallas down Highway 67 through Glen Rose (also a nice ride).
Wish my ERA could be done in time to join y'all.
Edit: Updated Highway number (thanks Bob).

I think you all mean Hwy 281 --- not 287. and yes i highly recommend 281 vs. I-35

I've ridden Hwy 281 on the motorcycle many times and it's a very nice road. Just watch out for deer. It will add about 50 extra miles and about 2+ hrs. of extra travel time onto the trip to San Marcos.
Cheryl and I may just shoot down I-35 and get there. I'm afraid that I would be pressing my luck with getting Cheryl to ride in the Cobra for much longer than 3.5 hrs.

Actually I was thinking about leaving at 5:30 AM with a breakfast / potty stop and meet up with the West side Gang in Waco about 7:30 AM, that should put us into San Marcos about 10:00 AM. Spot the trailers, unload the cars and head over to Lockhart for some BBQ.

Let's circle back around to the question---is there any interest in going via 281 or is 35 going to be the road of choice?

Driving I would vote for 281 but trailering I would go 35.

TTT for Bwana
Mmme trailering .. so will go I35 as previously. Last year we had a little rendezvous at Cracker Barrel in DeSoto at 7:30, gassed in Waco at the Flying J, took the by-pass east around Austin, etc. I think there were five of us in my pack.
I will have to leave McK at 6 am to do this. That is early enough for me!
For the first timers .. don't stress .. we won't all be able to travel in a group. It's ok to pick a buddy or two and just go. Make fun!

I'll be leaving town Thur evening (the little lady does her surgeries on Thur so she can't take the day off) so if anyone is leaving later, let me know.
