How Old are your Tires - Safety Message

If you're interested, here is the link to the Tire Report that we discussed last week in one of our Safety Meetings. Watching the video puts a greater perspective on this.
While registering for an upcoming race event we were told that we couldn’t run tires older than 5 years. No problem right, we just bought these tires. WRONG, inspect the age of your tires immediately. Follow the information in the video to find out exactly how old your tires REALLY are.

Watched the video and went out to check the tires on the Cobra. Fronts read 3905 5 years old. The rears read 1902 8 years old! The car is only 3 years old! New tires in the spring! There needs to be a law that shows the expiration date of the tires on the sales receit!

Check your tires! I can just picture punching the throttle and have a rear tire let go. Instant disaster!

Goodyear Billboards are dated differently?

Would suck to end up seeing the light. I bet a majority of the tires on the road are older than 5yrs, especially for these cars as they sit most of the year.

A few years ago I read about an attorney in California who began investigating "tire age" after he noticed a rise in faulty tire related accidents. This fella travels all over the country buying "New" tires from retailers and dates and catagorizes them. His oldest "New" tire, at the time, was 20 YEARS OLD! The manufacturers suggest that you should not use a tire over 6 years old, due to several factors that can break down the construction of the tire. Back then, the U.S. was the only "major" country that did not have laws in place against this. From what I read FORD MOTOR CO. was the only one who certifies that the tires they use are actually New. I'll see if I can find this artical and I'll pass it on.
