trunk carpet
I have a 289 FIA on it's way. The car needs trunk carpet, is having a local shop make the best way to go, or are there kits out there?

Some guys like the look of aluminum panels others are carpet guys,I'm a carpet guy . I have the matching wool carpet used in the cockpit area installed in my trunk area. The carpet is cut to size then glued to the car with 3-m adheisive spray. I'll post som pictures later today.Upholstery shops can install carpet also.

Alex, most FIA cars are Unique or ERA. These companies have a local upholstery shop make up kits from their patterns. If your car is a Unique, Allan Weaver, one of the owners would probably supply just the trunk portion of the kit. Suspect ERA would do the same. I have run with a couple of FIA boys both of which own Unique Cars. The Weavers support their cars the best of any. The last car that I completed a carpet kit was purchased. $ wise a tick high, however, time wise a good bet. In addition it allows a pattern should replacement be required. Personally I use contact cement out of the can applied with a disposable brush. Once the carpet is placed on the adhesive I use a roller to form it. The roller can be purchased from Lowe's in the wall paper department. There are two kinds, get the sturdy metal shaft one. You will enjoy the new ride. The FIA's are nimble. Colin

Alex, Colin makes a good point. Give them a call and check pricing. There are several trim shops around Houston that can do a great job as well. Just make sure you choose a quality carpet. Wool would be my first choice. Stay away from that speakerbox crap! Also, leave the trunk open for about a week to clear the glue smell.
