I have been told that you can use Permatex ultra copper and no gasket.

Correct. But Remflex might make a gasket that fits your pipes. Check them out at www.remflex.com. Call if you don't see your style of gasket. They have just about everything, and they worki!

I got their gaskets and never looked back.

I always put mine together dry - no gasket or sealant. Last time I installed them I decided to use Ultra-Copper. Don't know why, it just seemed to be a good idea at the time. Doesn't seem to have made any differance.

I used the remflex 4 into 4 for SPF last time, and even tho they were expensive ($25 for a pair) they last a long time.

Non-embossed flat Copper gasket from Flat out Gaskets and Permatex copper is the only thing that worked for me.
