Question Potential First Time Buyer - Questions

Hi,

I just signed up here and was hoping to get some information so please go easy on me!

My dad has suddenly and unexpectedly become extremely interested in purchasing a Cobra replica. We live in the DFW area (Carrollton/Plano). He has good general knowledge of cars and did a lot of work to a 65 Mustang that he owned when he was younger, but we don't know a lot about Cobras specifically. I think we'd like to keep our search within Texas so we can avoid the hassle of getting it re-titled if possible.

I realize that everyone will have their personal preferences on the style, engine, transmission, etc. but I was wondering if anyone could help with specifics on what to look for or what to avoid when buying a used one. Does anyone have a good mechanic in DFW (Plano area) who could check out a car before we purchase? Also, if anyone knows of some nice ones for sale in the DFW area, please let me know. I think he'd like to keep the budget to around $40k or less.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Jonathan

Jonathan,

Welcome to you and your Dad!

You came to the right place to learn more about Cobras ... the best advice is above, read Bill's post it's an excellent overview and meet the people. Go to the local breakfast, you will meet a lot of great guys and be able to look at some very nice cars. Most of all ... ask lots of questions, that will help you decide which way to go.

Have Fun!

P.S. I can see from your CC name (Koenigsegg) that you are a car enthusiast like your Dad

Yes please come out and meet with us for breakfast tomorrow morning. I am still in the waiting phase of getting mine, been here since I joined the club 3 years ago, but this is a great group of guys. You would have no trouble finding someone to check a car out for you.

Jonathan,
Just buy Mr. Mustang's ERA.
That's a fantastic car at a great price.

I have a Cobra and I still enjoy looking at the pictures at

http://www.cobracountry.com/home2.html

of beautiful Cobras for sale. Don't miss this site! There is an SPF there in your budget. I wouldn't worry about buying outside of Texas.

Since you're close to www.lonestarclassics.com

Talk with the owner Brian, I'm sure he can help you. Take a look in my gallery to see what his car looks like. It's 96" wheelbase and all 4" are in the cockpit for great leg room.

Thanks to all for the information, both here and at the meet. It was great to get to see so many nice looking Cobras.

We looked at two today and the second one was a very nice Backdraft with only 1600 miles on it. My dad is set to purchase it early this week. We will keep an eye on this forum and plan to come out to one of the next few meets.

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

If you want a really nice Cobra that is finished and in great shape check this one out. It is near Austin. http://www.darkwatercustoms.com/forsale.php

Thanks, I emailed about that one last week but was told it was recently sold. It does look great. We picked up a nice BDR last night and he's very happy with it so far.
