Default Tcc 2010 fall gathering - it is planned - must read!

Wanted to get the word out to you guys. Hope you can attend. If the Hanger Hotel runs out of room, there are some other great places to stay in the area. Look at FBGTX.org for more information on Fredericksburg and places to stay.

The location is picked, the rooms have been blocked and final planning is under way. The TCC 2010 Fall Gathering is going to be a Blast from the Past Event. See below for details and make your resevation today!

TEXAS COBRA CLUB - 2010 FALL GATHERING

Catered dinner in one of the small conference rooms, 48-50 capacity. If we need a larger room, this should not be an issue.

OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The Hangar Hotel sits on the Gillespie County Airport . This is an active airport with airplanes landing, taking off and taxiing. Though it would be a blast to speed down the runway, this is an absolute no-no. Maintaining a healthy respect for these steel birds is a must!
Tailgating activity will be allowed next to our trailers as long as our activity is respectful and considerate to other guests and the facility. We're all adults; I think we all can handle this part.
The "Officers' Club" is open until midnight Friday and Saturday with live entertainment. Enjoy one or more signature Martinis from a list that is longer than the runway.
EVENT PLANNING TEAM:

Team Lead: Tonya Von Bulow, 713-855-9023
Restaurant Planner: TBD
Driving Route Planner: TBD
Tailgating Planner: TBD
Stay tuned…updates will be provided as details become finalized. If you would like to volunteer for a position on the Event Planning Team or if you have any questions, please contact the Team Lead.

Rooms are going fast so just in case the Hanger Hotel fills up, I'm told the Country Inn & Cottages is pretty good as well. I hear the owner of the place has a Cobra as well.

My wife and I will be there--just made reservations at the Hangar. Doubt, though, that ERA 766 will be finished by then. No problem with the catered dinner. Sounds like a great idea.

Thumbs up

Man!, What a deal. Right in my backyard. This
sounds like a really good time.
We went to the Big Band dance they had there a few weeks ago. A real neat place to see.
I look forward to seeing you guys again. I'm
still working on the house. Hopefully we will be moved in by then. If not y'all are still welcome to
come out here and have a cold drink and walk around the woods if you want.

Update from the lead planner, Tonya......

Based on the response, it appears there is some excitement about this event!

I understand there were some questions regarding if members from Austin, Dallas and other cobra clubs can join. I believe this question has already been answered through previous posts; nonetheless, I'm reconfirming the answer is....absolutely! Though the past Fall Gatherings have been in the Houston area and mainly attended by Houston Cobra Club members, this year we are taking this gathering way outside the Houston area for other surrounding clubs to enjoy.

Here are some updates thus far:
Rooms booked: 30 (as of 7/23, 9:48pm)
Rooms available: 5
Planning Team Volunteers:
Restaurant Planner: Janice Thigpen, Tonya
Driving Route Planner: Kelly Mullins
Tailgating Planners: Rick Hallett, Jim Driesch, Ian Powell
Gentlemen, since your postings were filled with such passion for consuming, I'm volunteering you to plan the tailgating event. I'm confident you will be able to handle this task with enthusiasm and deliver on the club members expectations.
Communication Planner (posting to other sites / forums): Dennis Mosely
Theme Planner: Sharon Driesch, Tonya
Theme Night 10/16
Yes, we are having a theme night and it is completely optional if you want to dress in WWII (1940's) period clothing (i.e. military uniforms, fashion of the time, etc.) however, it is not required. Since the Hangar Hotel's design is based on the WWII South Pacific time period, we are planning on having some fun with this. Use your imagination and step back in time for an evening of Heroes, Romance and to celebrate America's Greatest Generation.
Catered Dinner 10/16
I will be meeting with management 7/31 to discuss the menu and conference room size.
Additional Hotels
I will check with another Hotel in the area to see if I can block off some rooms.
If you have any suggestions, questions, and/or comments, please feel free to give me a call at 713-855-9023 or send me an e-mail tvonbs@yahoo. com. I will send another update towards the end of the weekend or early part of next week. Until then, stay safe and "drive 'em like you stole 'em"!

Default Update #2 from Tonya

UPDATE #2

Hello Happy Cruisers,
As of 11/24 Saturday morning, all the rooms at the Hangar Hotel have been booked. If you were unable to reserve a room at the Hangar Hotel, but still want to join in on the fun, listed below are the hotels in Fredericksburg. For proximity reference, the Hangar Hotel is located on the Gillespie County Airport.

Thus far, I have a rough count of 75 confirmed attendees to this event. Holy horsepower Batman, this is going to be big!

Next update to follow within 1 to 2 weeks. Until then, be safe and stay cool!

Tonya

Gary, send me your email address and I will send you an email with each of the hotels that has a google maps link so you can see each location. Don't know how to make it work on the site here. Can't imagine the town being too big so they are probably all close in Houston/Dallas terms.

This video of the Hangar hotel was posted on the FFR site. I visited the place a couple of years ago and was really impressed with place.

The Hangar Hotel is some distance from any other of the hotels. The others are in town near the main street while the Hangar is at the airport. I believe it is something like a fifteen minute drive.

I wouldn't say it's 15 min., especially the way some of us drive, but it's not walking distance to anything but airplanes. I stand corrected....there is a golf course next to the airport. The airport is less than three miles south on 16 off 270 then turn right on 2093. I'm not sure if it's still there, but there is an RV trailer park about a mile away and there are a couple of others nearby if you're trailering.

Before I started building my car I used to ride bikes out there every March during spring break in a ride called "Hellweek". I still have all the queue sheets that would make for some great cruises in the area. Personal favorites were out to Willow City Loop and Enchanted Rock, and of course out to Vanderpool, Medina, and Leakey. Don't forget Luckenbach too down to watch the bats at sunset. I've been itching to get the car out on a long trip so depending how things are going I may get my chance.

Charles, there will be plenty of rooms in Fredericksburg. The mainstreet hotels are 15 minutes or so from the Hangar, but this is a small town and most of the restaurants are downtown anyway. I've been there with a Porsche group....there won't be a problem getting a room.

Dennis,

I am waiting to see it I am working that weekend. If not I might end up in a Down town Hotel. Perhaps we can have a TCC Hotel #2 that we can get signed up for the Fall fun.

Gregg / Dennis,

Right now it looks like we might have at least six cars from DFW so let us know as soon as you decide on Hotel #2.

Default 2010 Fall Gathering-Hotel #2 Pending

Hello Club Cobra Members,
It's great to see there is a need to obtain a 2nd hotel for the 2010 Fall Gathering. I'm looking at a Fredericksburg map at the moment and there are quite a few hotels all around the town. There are some chain hotels within a couple miles of the Hangar Hotel: Quality Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn & Suites; but I'm thinking a locally owned unique to the town hotel may be the way to go. I will check with the Country Inn; it's not the closest to the Hangar Hotel, but appears to have ample trailer parking.

Also, according to the map, the Hangar Hotel is 3 miles from the center of town. Less than a mile up the road from the Hangar Hotel towards town is "Street Dreams", a vintage/classic/muscle car showroom. I wonder if those folks would appreciate a showing of cobras in their parking???? A possible rallying point to begin the Saturday Cruise.

Stay tuned...

Tonya
