Thumbs up Great Racing Footage/1964 fairlane

This did not come to me as a hot link and I do not have a clue how to get it here hot. Soooo, take the time to type in http://www.dogfightmag.com/2010/08/a...s-nurburgring/. Turn up your speakers as you won't be disappointed. Look at his speeds and keep your eyes open for the Cobra he blows past. Enjoy-Col

I saw that sometime ago as well, and dug a little deeper into the car. HM is making 4 or 5 of them to very accurate original specs, sales price around $200K. What I thought was interesting was the gear ratio of 3.50 on the read end. The video is in kilometers but it works out to about 160 mph top speed. With a top loader at 1 to 1 ratio and tall tires that 427 FE is pushing 7,000 rpm!

Default '64 Fairlane

Amazing video. I have a buddy here in Houston that just picked up a '64 Fairlane and is re-creating a Thunderbolt. Powerplant is a 460 with twin turbos. For a 46 year old car it's amazingly rust free. Car is stripped headed for media blasting.

Lee Holman told me they moved the car from running with the sports cars to the GT class. As for originality, it's close. Power is from a medium riser 427. Brakes are upgraded as is the transmission from a top loader to a five speed TKO? 600. As with the original H-M built '64Fairland, the car is stretched . . . I think 10 inches. I don't know the exact weight, but it's light, or near that of a 427 Cobra. As for aero, drag is much less, thus the higher speeds as witnessed by the way it blows by cars on the straights.

Tom, that may not be the same car as the video is referencing, or is it?

HM got permission from the FIA to build four cars for vintage racing. The rules are very strict as to what constitutes a "continuation" car allowed to compete. One of those cars is competing in Europe right now. A gray one, the #1 car. The #2 car is white and is currently listed for sale on the HM web site.

#2 is a 427 side oiler, dual carbs on a HM intake, Jericho road racing 4 speed, DRUM brakes in the rear, 3.50 gear ratio, as per original specs. The original Thunderbolt drag race cars were the "post" body, which was shorter than the Fairlane 500 body. The road race cars are using the Fairlane 500 body. The only allowed variances from the original specs are increased roll bar strength and a couple of other minor safety related items.

As to WHO or WHICH car, with or without additional mods, is running the "Ring" remains a little cloudy. As I understand it the car in the video is privately owned, sold by HM to somebody with very deep pockets!

The aluminum DASH was cast from the original WOOD MOLD that HM still has. This is truly a "continuation car" and would be accurate to call a true "replica". The term "replica", in it's actual definition, cannot be applied to our replica Cobras. We have something less than a "replica", all though, we commonly use that inaccurate term to describe our cars...

The car in the video MAY BE the #1 GRAY car from HM, which is currently racing in Belgium. More info can be found here:
