Plano Balloon Festival
I am thinking about taking the cobra up early tomorrow or Sunday morning to watch the morning launch.
Any locals have a suggestion for a good vantage point away from the crowds with easy in / easy out ?
Thinking something maybe a mile or more away, such as a mall or corporate office parking lot, or subdivision under construction with newly cut streets, etc.
Anybody else interested?

Honestly, I'm not sure you're gonna find a great spot. They had a triathalon there Labor Day weekend and I was headed to cheer on some friends and still had to make a bizarre loop around to get to parking.
Although there's a new part of the park on the back side of Oak Point. If you east on Parker, you'll come to Los Rios. Hang a left and head down. There's a pond and a new parking lot there.
Although for first thing in the morning you might be OK parking at the Methodist Church.

Thanks Colleen,
I was beginning to think I had started another thread for all of the PCH cruise folks to let us know when they were leaving town. (I am not jealous in the least.)
I was eyeing the suburbs and commons to the northeast of Oak Point, I believe off Los Rios.

jshel1,
We just wish you were going along. I know how you hate to cruise, but you will never convince me your baby is a trailer queen.

Late notice, but we're going early tomorrow morning for the 7am launch. Parking in the directed places, then doing the whole bounce-house, corn dog, face painting thing.
My clutch is still out so not taking the Cobra, but damn I'm missing some decent driving weather.
Text me if you want to get your face painted or something...

Wait for us!
I'd love to join you John. What time????
OH WAIT! STRIKE THAT! I'm sitting in San Francisco waiting for our cars to show up. I might be a little late.
Actually John, I thought you were with us today. It's overcast and wet. Perfect for a Hurricane!

Steve,
I counted 31 for the Saturday morning launch, but there had to be more awaiting the larger Sunday morning event. Still working on getting the hang of this new digital SLR. I have many shots where the light isn't quite right; for those shared in the gallery, I had to really downsize.

Jan and I have attended the New Mexico Balloon Festival where there are hundreds of balloons in the air at once. If you've not been it's a must for your Bucket List and you can arrange a ride during one of the mass launches!

Any interest in viewing the 2011 balloon launch?
We earned our stripes last year and got the easy-in / easy-out vantage from a distance thing down. Prevailing winds just happened to bring the party to us.

Warning to those of you who like to sleep in, this is a dawn patrol type thing.
